Objectives
TO PROMOTE A BETTER KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONCEPT OF MODERNITY AND OF THE HISTORY OF THE MODERN AGE THROUGH THE ANALYSIS OF THE SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES IN POLITICS AND SOCIAL LIFE FROM THE XV TO THE XIX CENTURY.
KNOW THE MAJOR MOMENTS OF ITALIAN, EUROPEAN AND WORLD HISTORY AND THEIR GEOGRAPHICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXTS OF STRUCTURAL AND LONG-TERM REFERENCE.


KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:

AWARENESS OF THE RELATIONSHIPS, IN TIME AND SPACE, BETWEEN MAN AND THE ENVIRONMENT, AS WELL AS THE MAIN PROBLEMS OF A WORLD IN RAPID AND CONTINUOUS SOCIAL, POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION IN ORDER TO ALLOW THE STUDENT A FIRST UNDERSTANDING, ALTHOUGH SUSCEPTIBLE TO IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS, THE CONSTANT INTERWEAVING BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS OF HISTORY: ECONOMIC-SOCIAL, INSTITUTIONAL AND CULTURAL, AS WELL AS THE ELEMENTS OF THE GREATEST NOVELTY AND CHARACTERIZATION OF THE MODERN AGE.


ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:

THE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING REFERRED TO IN THE PREVIOUS POINT MUST THEN BE PERCEIVED IN SUCH A WAY AS TO BE USEFUL FOR DEALING WITH THE STUDY, IN GENERAL TERMS, OF OTHER AND DIFFERENT HISTORICAL MOMENTS.
1. TO BE ABLE TO ELABORATE AND/OR APPLY ORIGINAL APPROACHES AND INTUITIONS TO CONTRIBUTE TO ADVANCING THE STATE OF RESEARCH IN THE HISTORICAL SPHERE.
2. TO KNOW HOW TO ACT WITH PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE IN THE VARIOUS FIELDS OF HISTORICAL STUDIES RELATED TO THE MODERN AGE.
3. ABILITY TO PERFORM DATA MANAGEMENT, ANALYSIS AND CRITICAL EVALUATION OF THE ISSUES ADDRESSED.
4. ABILITY TO IDENTIFY AND SOLVE PROBLEMS RELATED, IN PARTICULAR, TO THE NEED TO ACTUALIZE THE HISTORICAL STUDY, THAT IS TO KNOW HOW TO FIND IN THE TRADITION OF THE PAST THE TRACES OF THE SOCIO-CULTURAL DYNAMICS OF THE PRESENT.
Prerequisites
THE TEACHING HAS NO OTHER REQUISITE, IF NOT THE KNOWLEDGE OF THOSE BASIC CONTENTS WHICH ARE NORMALLY TRANSMITTED BY THE PROGRAMS OF THE HIGH SCHOOL IN THIS FIELD OF STUDIES.

Teaching Methods
THIS TEACHING USES THE FOLLOWING METHODOLOGIES:

- LESSONS WITH WIDE CONTENTS, WITH A FINAL DISCUSSION ON THE CENTRAL TOPICS OF THE LESSON.

- LESSONS TRANSMITTING MORE APPLICATIVE KNOWLEDGES AND WHICH ARE FOLLOWED BY EXERCISES AND PROBLEMS ON WHICH THE CLASS WORKS IN ORDER TO FIND SOLUTIONS.

- LECTURES BASED ON TEXTS, WITH THEIR ANALYSIS AND THE DISCUSSION BY THE WHOLE CLASS.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL EXAMINATION TO VERIFY THE STUDENT’S PREPARATION AND THE SUITABILITY TO USE THE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECT IN THE FIELD OF MODERN HISTORY. DURING THE INTERVIEW WILL BE EVALUATED THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN A CLEAR AND UNAMBIGUOUS KNOWLEDGE OF CONTENT AND METHODOLOGICAL ACQUIRED.
