Objectives
THE FRENCH LANGUAGE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDY, UNDERSTANDING AND LANGUAGE PRODUCTION TOOLS FOR ACHIEVING THE INTERMEDIATE LEVEL B1 OF THE FOUR SKILLS PROVIDED FOR BY THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL KNOW:
-THE MAIN PHONETIC, GRAMMATICAL, LEXICAL AND MORPHO-SYNTACTIC ASPECTS.
-THE BASIC VOCABULARY.
-THE EXACT ARRANGEMENT OF THE MAIN FRENCH LINGUISTIC STRUCTURES.
IT WILL ALSO UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN:
-ASPECTS OF FRENCH AND FRANCOPHONE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE.
-FRENCH AND ITALIAN LANGUAGE (COMPARATIVE ASPECTS, ‘FAKE FRIENDS’, CONTRASTIVE ASPECTS).
-THE MECHANISMS OF THE WRITTEN AND ORAL FRENCH LANGUAGE.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-USE THE FRENCH LANGUAGE TO COMMUNICATE AND INTERACT.
-UNDERSTAND AND TRANSLATE SHORT TEXTS FROM FRENCH INTO ITALIAN.
-EXAMINE THE CONSTITUENT ELEMENTS OF LINGUISTIC PRODUCTIONS AND IDENTIFY THE MAIN TYPES OF COMMUNICATION (ANNOUNCEMENTS, DOCUMENTS, REGISTRATIONS, WEBSITE HOME PAGES, FORUMS, MESSAGES, LETTERS, POSTCARDS, FRIENDLY-FORMAL MAILS, NEWSPAPER HEADLINES, PRESS ARTICLES, PRESENTATIONS, DESCRIPTIONS, MAPS, EXTRACTS FROM GUIDES, MENUS, FLYERS, BROCHURES, TICKETS, COMICS, ADVERTISEMENTS, BIOGRAPHIES, INSTRUCTIONS, SHORT LITERARY EXTRACTS, DICTIONARY ENTRIES).
-DEVELOP ORAL COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES AND COMPOSE SHORT WRITTEN TEXTS ON LANGUAGE AND CIVILIZATION ISSUES.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-EVALUATE THE DIFFERENT EXPRESSIVE TYPOLOGIES BASED ON THE CONTEXT AND REFLECT ON GENERAL TOPICS OF FRENCH LANGUAGE AND CIVILIZATION.
-DISCERN THE PECULIAR LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL FORMS; WILL HAVE MASTERED STUDY AND SYNTHESIS.
-SELECT RELEVANT CONTENT BASED ON THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DISCOURSE.
-DEVELOP ANALYTICAL AND REFLECTION SKILLS ON TOPICAL ISSUES.

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-COMMUNICATE IN FRENCH IN DIFFERENT CONTEXTS.
-ILLUSTRATE AND SUMMARIZE - USING TRADITIONAL MATERIALS AND VIRTUAL INSTRUMENTS - THE RESULTS OF STUDIES OR PERSONAL PAPERS.

LEARNING ABILITY
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND IT RESOURCES TO INTERPRET LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL CONTENT.

Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING INCLUDES FRONTAL LESSONS DURING WHICH THE ACQUISITION OF SUITABLE STRATEGIES TO BE APPLIED IN THE INTERACTION IN FRENCH TAKES PLACE. STUDENTS ARE PROPOSED TO ORGANIZE THE MAIN PHONETIC, LEXICAL, GRAMMATICAL AND MORPHO-SYNTACTIC ASPECTS TO PUT INTO PRACTICE THE FOUR LINGUISTIC SKILLS OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE IN CONTEXT.
THE LANGUAGE ACQUISITION METHOD CONSISTS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SKILLS THAT LEAD STUDENTS TO THE DISCOVERY, CONCEPTUALIZATION AND ASSIMILATION OF LINGUISTIC CONTENTS IN RELATION TO PRAGMATIC OBJECTIVES.
TO ACQUIRE SKILLS IN COMPREHENSION AND PRODUCTION (WRITTEN AND ORAL), STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO REASON AND COMPARE WITH THEIR OWN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE THROUGH THE STUDY OF AUTHENTIC DOCUMENTS AND ACTIVITIES OF READING, TRANSLATION, 'TEXT EXPLANATION' OF TOPICS COVERED IN THE BOOKS OF METHOD AND CIVILIZATION. THIS PHASE PROMOTES THE ABILITY TO CRITICALLY REFLECT ON LANGUAGE MECHANISMS AS WELL AS ON ONE'S OWN CULTURE IN RELATION TO FRENCH AND FRANCOPHONE CULTURES.
A PART OF THE COURSE IS DEDICATED TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TYPES OF TEXTS AND THE MAIN TEXTUAL REDUCTION TECHNIQUES (SUMMARY, REPORT, SYNTHESIS).
Verification of learning
THE EXAM IS AIMED AT EVALUATING THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF THE FRENCH AND FRANCOPHONE LANGUAGE AND CIVILIZATION AND OF THE LINGUISTIC MECHANISMS IN CORRELATION WITH THE PRAGMATIC AND CONTEXTUAL ASPECTS.
AT THE END OF THE COURSE, ATTENDING AND NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE ORAL EXAM, WHICH INCLUDES:
- VERIFICATION OF THE MORPHOSYNTACTIC, GRAMMATICAL AND LEXICAL KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED DURING THE LESSONS THAT REGULATE THE COMMUNICATIVE AND INTERACTIONAL PROCESSES IN FRENCH;
- CONVERSATION IN THE LANGUAGE ON THE TOPICS CONTAINED IN THE TEXTBOOKS ADOPTED, THOSE PRESENTED IN THE CLASSROOM AND IN THE LANGUAGE LABORATORIES TO VERIFY THE LEVEL REACHED BY THE STUDENT IN THE ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE;
- READING, TRANSLATION, SUMMARY OF TEXTS CONCERNING FRENCH AND FRANCOPHONE CULTURE IN ORDER TO VERIFY THE UNDERSTANDING AND SYNTHESIS SKILLS ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT.
THERE ARE ONGOING TESTS AND WRITTEN PRODUCTIONS THAT STUDENTS WILL BRING TO THE EXAM.
