Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
THE COURSE AIMS TO PRESENT THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF MORAL PHILOSOPHY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF BOTH ETHICAL THEORY (METAETHICS) AND NORMATIVE THEORIES.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL:
- WILL KNOW THE DISCIPLINARY FOUNDATIONS OF MORAL PHILOSOPHY.
- WILL STUDY THE MAJOR AUTHORS OF CLASSICS OF MORAL PHILOSOPHY.
- WILL DEVELOP AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE HISTORICAL DIMENSION OF THE PROBLEMS OF MORAL PHILOSOPHY.
- HE/SHE WILL ACQUIRE SKILLS TO ORIENT HIM/HERSELF IN THE DIFFERENT THEMATIC FIELDS OF ETHICAL THEORY AND NORMATIVE ETHICS.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- APPLY THE THEORETICAL PRINCIPLES OF ETHICS TO CONCRETE CASES.
- EXAMINE THE STRENGTH OF THE ARGUMENTS PROPOSED BY THE VARIOUS AUTHORS.
- DEVELOP A CRITIQUE OF BOTH THE VARIOUS THEORIES AND THEIR PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS AND POSSIBLY DEVELOP PERSONAL REFLECTIONS.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- EVALUATE THE CORRECTNESS OF THE ARGUMENTS PRESENTED IN FAVOR OF NORMATIVE PRINCIPLES.
- DISCERN THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF VARIOUS POSITIONS.
- SELECT ARGUMENTS AND REASONS THAT MAY HELP PRODUCE A PERSONAL AND ORIGINAL POSITION.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- FIND EQUIVALENTS IN ITALIAN OF DISCIPLINE-SPECIFIC TERMS FOUND IN FOREIGN LANGUAGES.
- REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE, THROUGH TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, RESULTS OF OWN RESEARCH OR ELABORATIONS, PRESENTING THEM POSSIBLY ALSO THROUGH THE ELABORATION OF MENTAL EXPERIMENTS.

LEARNING SKILLS

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND COMPUTER RESOURCES.
- TO CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, TO UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET THE FUNDAMENTAL TEXTS OF THE DISCIPLINE, TO DEFINE THE CRITERIA TO SELECT AND EVALUATE THE DIFFERENT BIBLIOGRAPHIC SOURCES.
- PROCEED TO THE CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE.

THE TEST CONSISTS OF AN ORAL EXAMINATION AIMED AT VERIFYING THE STUDENT'S PREPARATION AND ABILITY TO USE THE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECT IN THE FIELD OF MORAL PHILOSOPHY. DURING THE INTERVIEW THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN A CLEAR AND UNEQUIVOCAL WAY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE OF CONTENT AND METHODOLOGY WILL BE EVALUATED.
