Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
THE COURSE AIMS TO PREPARE FOR THE STUDY OF THE HISTORY OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY BY ALSO PROVIDING THE BASIS FOR METHODOLOGICAL AND TEXTUAL REFERENCE.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
THE STUDENT:
- WILL KNOW SOME FUNDAMENTAL DEVELOPMENTS IN THE HISTORY OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHT

- EXAMINE AND COMPARE ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL AUTHORS AND TRADITIONS
- ELABORATE ORIGINAL REFLECTIONS ON ISSUES RELATED TO THE HISTORY OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- EVALUATE THE CRITICAL LITERATURE.
- SELECT ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL TEXTS BASED ON THE SPECIFIC FIELD OF INTEREST.

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE, THROUGH TEXTS OR EVEN VIRTUAL TOOLS, THE RESULTS OF RESEARCH OR OWN ELABORATIONS.

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND COMPUTER ANALYSIS AND ARCHIVING RESOURCES;
- CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS, OF A PUBLICISTIC OR LITERARY NATURE;
- PROCEED WITH THE CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF HIS/HER KNOWLEDGE, USING TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE.

THE COURSE OF "HISTORY OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY A" AIMS TO PROVIDE A COMPREHENSIVE INTRODUCTION TO PLATO'S 'REPUBLIC'. VARIOUS TOPICS ADDRESSED IN THE DIALOGUE WILL BE EXAMINED: FROM THE ETHICAL-POLITICAL TO THE THEORETICAL. AMPLE SPACE WILL ALSO BE DEVOTED TO SOME SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF THE ETHICAL-POLITICAL AND ONTOLOGICAL-METAPHYSICAL VOCABULARY EMPLOYED BY PLATO IN THIS WORK.THE OVERALL STRUCTURE OF SYMBOLOGY OF ORIENTATION ON WHICH THE ENTIRE DIALOGUE APPEARS TO BE ORGANIZED WILL ALSO BE EXAMINED.
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING CONSISTS OF 30 HOURS OF FRONTAL LESSONS, WHICH WILL ALSO INCLUDE THE READING OF TEXTS IN TRANSLATION WITH EXEGETICAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL COMMENTARY.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL EXAMINATION TO TEST THE STUDENT'S PREPARATION AND ABILITY TO USE THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED. DURING THE EXAMINATION, THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE CLEARLY AND PRECISELY THE CONTENT AND METHODOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED AND THE ABILITY TO DISCUSS THE TEXTS STUDIED WILL BE ASSESSED.
