EXPECTED LEARNING RESULTS: 1. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE GREEK LANGUAGE (VOCABULARY, MORPHOLOGY, SYNTAX, PROSODY, METRE) AND ITS HISTORY, AS ATTESTED BY LITERARY AS WELL AS SELECT EPIGRAPHICAL TEXTS FROM VIII CENT. BCE TO VI CENT. CE; ACQUISITION OF ADVANCED SKILLS IN THE STUDY OF THE HISTORY OF GREEK LITERARY LANGUAGES, WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION TO PHONOLOGY, MORPHOLOGY, PROSODY, METRE, SYNTAX AND CONTENT OF AN ADEQUATE NUMBER OF TEXTS; KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC METHODS AND TOOLS OF HISTORICAL-LINGUISTIC RESEARCH IN THIS PARTICULAR CHRONOLOGICAL PERIOD, WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE ONLINE RESOURCES; ABILITY TO COPE WITH PROBLEMS AND PERSPECTIVES OF THE HISTORY OF GREEK LANGUAGE, AND TO UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE, AND OF THESE LAST TO OTHER COMPONENTS OF CULTURE (SCIENCE, MUSIC, PHILOSOPHY, FINE ARTS), WITHIN THE GENERAL FRAMEWORK OF SOCIAL, POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT WORLD. 2. THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO 22 LECTURES OF 2 HOURS EACH AND 1 LECTURE OF 1 HOUR (45 HOURS IN TOTAL); THE LECTURES WILL BE DEVOTED TO READING, IN THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE, TRANSLATION INTO ITALIAN, TEXTUAL AND LITERARY ANALYSIS, EXEGETICAL AND HISTORICAL-LITERARY COMMENTARY OF THE TEXTS INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAMME (SEE “CONTENUTI DEL CORSO, 3.”). DURING THE LECTURES, STUDENTS WILL BE INVOLVED INTO DISCUSSIONS ON TEXTS AND TEXTUAL PROBLEMS. ATTENDANCE AT THESE LECTURES IS NOT COMPULSORY. THOSE STUDENTS WHO DECIDE NOT TO ATTEND THE LECTURES MUST ANYWAY STUDY THE CONTENTS OF THEM, AS WELL AS THE REFERENCE TEXTS. THE LECTURES WILL BE DELIVERED IN ITALIAN; DURING THEM NUMEROUS TEXTS IN ANCIENT GREEK WILL BE READ, TRANSLATED INTO ITALIAN AND COMMENTED ON. FOR ATTENDING AND NON ATTENDING STUDENTS, IN ORDER TO CERTIFY THAT THEY ACHIEVED THE TEACHING OBJECTIVE, IT IS REQUIRED TO PASS AN EXAM, WHICH WILL CONSIST IN A DISCUSSION OF ABOUT 40 MINUTES ON THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE AND ON THE ADOPTED TEXTS (SEE THE SECTION “TESTI ADOTTATI”). GRADES ARE EXPRESSED ON A SCALE OF 30: THE MINIMUM SCORE TO PASS THE EXAM IS 18/30. DURING THE EXAM, THE FOLLOWING WILL BE EVALUATED: 1. CORRECTNESS AND ACCURACY OF INFORMATION; 2. ABILITY TO ANSWER QUESTIONS PERTINENTLY AND ACCURATELY; 3. ABILITY TO SPEAK CLEARLY, SHOWING ACCURACY AND ADEQUATE LANGUAGE SKILLS; 4. ABILITY TO RELATE CLEARLY, SHOWING ACCURACY AND ADEQUATE LANGUAGE SKILLS; 5. ABILITY TO PLACE THE HISTORICAL-LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA IN WIDER HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXTS; 6. ABILITY TO SYNTESISE. STUDENTS WHO WON’T HAVE DEMONSTRATED AN ADEQUATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS ADDRESSED DURING THE COURSE, WITH REFERENCE TO THE PARAMETERS LISTED ABOVE, WON’T PASS THE EXAM.
