KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: ACHIEVEMENT OF THE PHYSICAL AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY INVOLVED IN THE REACTIONS BY WHICH POLYMER MOLECULES ARE SYNTHESIZED. THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE POLYMERIZATION REACTIONS AND THEIR KINETIC AND THERMODYNAMIC FEATURES, USEFUL FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF POLYMER STRUCTURES, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO INDENTIFY THE PROCESS CONDITIONS AND THE REACTION PARAMETERS, WHICH ARE RESPONSIBLE IN CONTROLLING POLYMERIZATION RATES, POLYMER MOLECULAR WEIGHT AND STRUCTURAL FEATURES SUCH AS BRANCHING AND CROSSLINKING. IT IS MY INTENTION TO GIVE THE STUDENT THE LEARNING SKILLS TO UNDERTAKE FURTHER STUDIES WITH SOME AUTONOMY, MAKING FAMILIAR THE TECHNICAL LANGUAGE. |

IT IS INTENDED THAT THE COURSE BE USEFUL TO STUDENTS WITH VERY LOW KNOWLEDGE OF THE MACROMOLECULAR SCIENCE. IT DEALS THE POLYMER SYNTHESIS, WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE INDUSTRIAL PERSPECTIVE. EACH TOPIC IS PRESENTED WITH MINIMAL ASSUMPTIONS REGARDING THE STUDENT’S BACKGROUND, EXCEPT FOR THE BASIC ORGANIC AND PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY. |
