Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS TEACHING CLASS ARE THE SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUNDS AND THEIR USE IN CATALYTIC PROCESSES OF ACADEMIC AND INDUSTRIAL INTEREST.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE AIMS TO TRAIN A SET OF SKILLS IN THE FIELD OF ORGANOMETALLIC SYNTHESIS AND PROVIDE AN IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF ADVANCED LABORATORY TECHNIQUES, SUCH AS SCHLENK TECHNIQUES. AT THE END OF THE TEACHING CLASS STUDENTS WILL HAVE ACQUIRED THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED TO MANIPULATE AND SYNTHESIZE INORGANIC AND ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUNDS IN AN INERT ATMOSPHERE.

COMMUNICATION: THE COURSE OFFERS THE POSSIBILITY OF CONTINUOUS INTERACTION AND EXCHANGE WITH THE TEACHER.

MAKING JUDGMENTS: STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO LEARN IN A CRITICAL WAY EVERYTHING IS EXPLAINED IN THE CLASSROOM AND THROUGH QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSIONS ON THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE.

THEORETICAL COURSE:
THE COURSE INCLUDES THEORETICAL LESSONS ON GENERAL ORGANOMETALLIC CHEMISTRY AND HOMOGENEOUS CATALYSIS, RELATED TO THE LABORATORY EXPERIENCES. DETAILED EXPLANATIONS OF THE SYNTHETIC PROCEDURES AND CHARACTERIZATION TECHNIQUES THAT WILL BE USED DURING THE LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS WILL BE PROVIDED.
IN PARTICULAR, THE ARGUMENTS OF THE THEORETICAL LESSONS INCLUDE:
INTRODUCTION TO SCHLENK TECHNIQUES, LABORATORY EQUIPMENT, PROCEDURES FOR ISOLATION AND PURIFICATION OF ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUNDS, PURIFICATION OF THE MOST COMMON ORGANIC SOLVENTS.
NICKEL COMPLEXES FOR THE ISOMERIZATION OF OLEFINS. COMPLEXES OF TRANSITION METALS ACTIVE IN THE POLYMERIZATION OF OLEFINS. SYNTHESIS OF BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS THROUGH RING-OPENING POLYMERIZATION OF CYCLIC ESTERS. METATHESIS REACTIONS PROMOTED BY RUTHENIUM CARBENE COMPLEXES.

LABORATORY COURSE:
1) SYNTHESIS OF NI[P(OET)3]4 AND ITS USE IN THE ISOMERIZATION OF OLEFINS
2) SYNTHESIS OF A POST-METALLOCENE CATALYST FOR THE OLIGOMERIZATION AND POLYMERIZATION OF OLEFINS
3) SYNTHESIS OF YTTRIUM AMIDE FOR THE POLYMERIZATION OF CYCLIC ESTERS
4) RING OPENING METATHESIS POLYMERIZATION WITH A CARBENE COMPLEXES OF RUTHENIUM.

LECTURES. LABORATORY EXPERIENCES.
Verification of learning
THE EVALUATION WILL BE MADE THROUGH ORAL EXAMINATION TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE REPORTS ON LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS. THE ORAL EXAMINATION CONSISTS IN A DISCUSSION ON THE TOPICS OF THE LECTURES AND LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS.
