Objectives
THE AIM OF THIS COURSE IS TO PROVIDE AN OVERVIEW OF THE CORE CONCEPTS IN SUPRAMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY WHICH, NON-COVALENT BONDING, HOST-GUEST CHEMISTRY, SELF-ASSEMBLY SYSTEMS AND ARTIFICIAL MOLECULAR MACHINES. IN ADDITION THE SUPRAMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY OF THE BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS IS ILLUSTRATED AND THE ANALYTHICAL AND SPECTROSCOPIC METHODS UTILIZED TO CHARACTERIZE THE SUPRAMOLECULAR SYSTEMS ARE INTRODUCED. AFTER THE COURSE THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO CARRY OUT THE DESIGN OF BIOMIMETIC SYSTEMS WITH SPECIFIC PROPERTIES AND FUNCTIONS.
Prerequisites
THE MAIN PREREQUISITES CONCERN THE CONCEPTS OF GENERAL, INORGANIC AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, AS WELL AS THE ACQUAINTANCE WITH THE USE OF THE SYMBOLOGY OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY AND BASIC STEREOCHEMISTRY. FURTHERMORE, IT IS REQUIRED THE KNOWLEDGE OF BASIC ORGANIC SYNTHESIS AND SPECTROMETRIC ORGANIC TECHNIQUES.
