Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO INTRODUCE METHODS AND TOOLS USED BY PHYSICS TO STUDY COMPLEX SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS, HIGHLIGHTING THE KEY ASPECTS OF COMPLEXITY AND NETWORKS OF NATURAL (E.G., FOOD NETWORKS) AND HUMAN ORIGIN (SOCIAL NETWORKS, WORLD WIDE WEB ETC.), AND THEN TO INTRODUCE THE STUDY OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND HEALTH SYSTEMS AS NETWORK BASED COMPLEX SYSTEMS.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: KNOWING AND UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF COMPLEX SYSTEM AND NETWORK, THE SYSTEMIC NATURE OF THE UNIVERSE, MADE BY BOTH NATURAL AND ANTHROPOGENIC SYSTEMS, AND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPLEX SYSTEMS EXISTING IN BIOLOGY, MEDICINE AND PUBLIC HEALTH.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ON REAL CASES.
MAKING JUDGEMENTS: ABILITY TO INDEPENDENTLY ASSESS THE MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF A COMPLEX SYSTEM OR NETWORK IN THE HEALTHCARE FIELD.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: ABILITY TO TRANSMIT THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN WRITTEN AND ORAL FORM.
LEARNING SKILLS: ABILITY TO OBTAIN NEW KNOWLEDGE AND COLLABORATE TO CARRY OUT EXPERIMENTS AND / OR RESEARCH ON THE TOPICS COVERED.
Prerequisites
ABILITY TO READ AND STUDY ENGLISH TEXTS.
KNOWLEDGE OF METHODS OF NUMERICAL ANALYSIS.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF MATHEMATICS, CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGY.
