Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE AN INTRODUCTION TO QUANTUM FIELD THEORY, STARTING FROM THE QUANTIZATION OF FREE FIELDS AND THEN ENDING UP WITH THE PROBLEM OF INTERACTING QUANTUM FIELDS. SOME ELEMENTS OF QUANTISATION VIA FUNCTIONAL INTEGRATION AND RENORMALISATION WILL ALSO BE GIVEN.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
THE COURSE AIMS TO MAKE STUDENTS ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AT AN ADVANCED LEVEL THE THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK IN WHICH STANDARD MODEL OF FUNDAMENTAL INTERACTIONS IS FORMULATED AND TO BE ABLE TO CALCULATE QUANTITIES OF PHYSICAL RELEVANCE BY USING THE METHODS AND TECHNIQUES OF QUANTUM FIELD THEORY.
Prerequisites
A SUITABLE KNOWLEGDE OF QUANTUM MECHANICS, WITH A SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE MATHEMATICAL ASPECTS UNDERLYING IT, IS REQUIRED.
THE COURSE IS ADDRESSED TO THE STUDENTS WITH CURRICULA ORIENTED TO THE HIGH-ENERGY PHYSICS AND COSMOLOGY, AS WELL AS TO THE ONES WITH CURRICULA ORIENTED TO CONDENSED MATTER AND SOLID STATE PHYSICS, QUANTUM OPTICS, ASTROPHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY. THE REQUIRED MATHEMATICAL KNOWLEDGE IS THE ONE RECEIVED IN THE COURSES OF THE THREE-YEAR DEGREE (LAUREA TRIENNALE).
