KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE PROVIDES A PANORAMIC VIEW ON ALL PROBLEMS CONCERNING ASTRONOMIC OBSERVATIONS, FROM THE DISTURBANCES INDUCED BY THE ATMOSPHERE TO THE DESCRIPTION OF THE OPTICAL SYSTEMS OF THE TELESCOPES AND RELATED ABERRATIONS. A WIDE SCOPE IS DEVOTED TO THE STUDY OF THE CCD DETECTORS, TO PHOTOMETRY AND ASTRONOMICAL SPECTROSCOPY. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THROUGH THE USE OF ADVANCED ASTRONOMICAL INSTRUMENTATION, THE STUDENT BUILDS HIS OWN ASTRONOMICAL MEASUREMENTS, APPLYING AND EXPERIENCING ALL NOTIONS LEARNED. |

GEOMETRIC OPTICS (PARAXIAL LIMIT), DIFFRACTION, INTERFERENCE, WAVE GUIDES. SEMICONDUCTOR PHYSICS, INTERACTION OF RADIATION WITH MATTER (PHOTOELECTIC AND COMPTON EFFECTS, PAIR CREATIONS). OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIERS, ANALOG-DIGITAL CONVERTERS. ELEMENTS OF ATOMIC AND MOLECULAR SPECTROSCOPY. |

LECTURES, OBSERVATIONS AT THE OBSERVATORY OF THE PHYSICS DEPARTMENT, DATA ANALYSIS AT THE COMPUTERS. ACCORDING TO THE PHYSICS COURSE GUIDELINES, THE ATTENDANCE OF LABORATORY SESSIONS IS MANDATORY. STUDENTS MUST BE PRESENT IN AT LEAST 3/4 OF THE SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES. |

WRITTEN REPORTS ON THE OBSERVATIONS. ORAL INTERVIEW. THE REPORTS SHOULD DEMONSTRATE THAT THE STUDENTS HAVE ACQUIRED THE ABILITY TO TREAT ASTRONOMICAL DATA AND EXTRACT THE PHYSICAL INFORMATION THEREIN. IN THE INTERVIEW, THE STUDENT SHOULD PROVE THAT HE/SHE KNOWS THE MAIN PROBLEMS IN ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATIONS AND DATA ANALYSIS. |
