Objectives
AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO SUPPLY STUDENTS WITH BASE KNOWLEDGE’S ABOUT ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES AND TO INTRODUCE THEM TO THE METHODOLOGY FOR THEIR QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS. IN PARTICULAR, THE COURSE DEALS WITH THE PROPAGATION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES IN FREE SPACE AND IN GUIDING STRUCTURES SUCH AS TRANSMISSION LINES AND HOLLOW WAVEGUIDES. THE COURSE PROVIDES ALSO BASE KNOWLEDGE’S ABOUT THE MAIN TYPES OF ANTENNAS AND THE PARAMETERS CHARACTERISING BOTH TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING ANTENNAS.
Prerequisites
TO PROFITABLY REACH THE GOAL OF THE COURSE A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS AND PHYSICS IS NEEDED.

TIME-VARYING AND TIME-HARMONIC ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS, ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE THEORY AND PROPAGATION, TRANSMISSION LINES THEORY, FUNDAMENTALS OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION AND ANTENNAS, WIRELESS LINKS, LINK BUDGET.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE MAINLY INCLUDES THEORETICAL LESSONS, BUT THERE ARE ALSO SOME NUMERICAL AND LABORATORY PRACTICES.
Verification of learning
AN ORAL EXAMINATION WILL VERIFY THE REACHING OF THE FIXED GOALS.
