THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE BOTH THEORETICAL AND APPLIED KNOWLEDGE ON THE SIZING AND USING MACHINES AND ELECTRICAL MOTOR DRIVES. THE COURSE PROVIDES THE BASIC CRITERIA FOR SIZING ELECTRONIC POWER CONVERTERS FOR INDUSTRIAL, TRACTION AND POWER APPLICATIONS. THE COURSE IS IN ITALIAN. |

INTRODUCTION: NATIONAL POWER SYSTEM AND THE ROLE OF ELECTRIC MACHINES IN TYPICAL SECTOR APPLICATIONS SUCH AS POWER GENERATION, ELECTRIC VEHICLES, INDUSTRIAL SECTORS. (2 H) - ROTATING ELECTRIC MACHINES: - PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION AND MAGNETIC CIRCUITS, ENERGY OF THE MAGNETIC FIELD (6 H) - DIRECT CURRENT MACHINE: STRUCTURE, OPERATING PRINCIPLE, GENERATOR AND MOTOR, ARMATURE REACTION, EQUIVALENT CIRCUIT, MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTIC, SPEED REGULATION. (8H). - GALILEO FERRARIS PRINCIPLE: ROTATING MAGNETIC FIELD (3 H). - ASYNCHRONOUS MACHINE: STRUCTURE, OPERATING PRINCIPLE, GENERATOR, MOTOR AND BRAKE, EQUIVALENT CIRCUIT, MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTIC, SPEED REGULATION. (8 H) - POWER ELECTRONICS AT THE SERVICE OF DRIVES. THE COURSE CONSISTS OF 60 HOURS OF LECTURES AND LABORATORY WORK. IN PARTICULAR, 48 HOURS OF CLASSROOM LESSONS AND EXERCISES AND 12 HOURS OF GUIDED LABORATORY EXERCISES ARE PROVIDED. THE COURSE IS ORGANIZED AS FOLLOWS: CLASSROOM LESSONS ON ALL COURSE SUBJECTS AND RELATED NUMERICAL EXERCISES. IN THE LAB, STUDENTS WILL BE DIVIDED INTO GROUPS (UP TO 5 STUDENTS PER GROUP) AND WILL WORK ON AC/DC AND DC/DC CONVERTERS. LESSONS ARE HELD IN ITALIAN. |

THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL INTERVIEW EVALUATED IN THIRTY-FIVE. IN DETAIL, THE WRITTEN TEST CONSISTS OF TWO NUMERICAL PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED, THE FIRST ON POWER ELECTRONICS AND THE SECOND ON ELECTRICAL MACHINES. A POSITIVE EVALUATION IS A NECESSARY CONDITION TO TAKE THE ORAL EXAM. THE ORAL TEST CONSISTS OF A DISCUSSION OF APPROXIMATELY 40 MINUTES AIMED AT ASSESSING THE STUDENT'S LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONTENTS OF THE PROGRAM. THE ORAL EXAMINATION INCLUDES THE PRESENTATION OF A SHORT TECHNICAL REPORT PRODUCED BY THE STUDENT EITHER AUTONOMOUSLY OR IN A GROUP ON THE TOPIC OF THE EXPERIMENTS CARRIED OUT IN THE LABORATORY. THE WRITTEN AND ORAL EXAM IS IN ITALIAN. |
