Objectives
Develop and enhance linguistic-expressive skills through the analysis and production of written and oral texts of various kinds. Acquire the ability to easily deal with general communicative situations, to express oneself orally and in writing on topics of various kinds, to deepen and discuss topics concerning English-speaking culture and civilization. Achieving linguistic competence equal to level B1 of the Common Frame of Reference for Languages defined by the Council of Europe. To be able to apply knowledge and understanding, linguistic analysis skills through theoretical reflection and practical activities on texts of various kinds.
Prerequisites
The course is for the students who have acquired a general knowledge of the English language. Level: A2+ (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Contents
The course focuses on the study of grammatical and syntactical structures in order to improve written and oral language abilities. Several activities, taken from authentic documents (articles and texts from English newspapers), will be used to write simple written texts of different kinds. Audio and video activities will be proposed to approach students to English and English-speaking cultures. Intercultural activities will be proposed to focus on the study of today's tendencies of the English world. The constant confrontation between culture and language will facilitate the understanding of the main differences between their own culture and English speaking cultures culture. Multimedia tools will help students learn interactively both for the results of their language knowledge and for the review of grammar.
Teaching Methods
Active lecture, interactive lessons in labs, collaborative and cooperative tasks with mother tongue CELs and self-learning.
Verification of learning
At the end of the course, students (both those who have attended and not attended the course) shall pass an exam testing the level of knowledge of the language acquired during the course (B1 level).
