Objectives
THE COURSE IS AIMED TO PROVIDE THE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT INNOVATIVE ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING PROCESSES AND THEIR INTEGRATION INTO TRADITIONAL MANUFACTURING THESE PROCESSES ARE GAINING INCREASING INTEREST INDEED, IN A NUMBER OF FIELDS, THEREFORE THEY REPRESENT THE FUTURE OF THE INDUSTRY 4.0, AS THEY PROVIDE OPERATIONAL FLEXIBILITY, REDUCTION OF TIME AND WASTE IN THE FRAME OF GREEN MANUFACTURING.
IN PARTICULAR, THE COURSE IS AIMED TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE REGARDING MANUFACTURING OF COMPLEX MECHANICAL COMPONENTS, PLANNING AND DESIGN OF MANUFACTURING, EVALUATION OF THE MECHANICAL AND STRUCTURAL PROPERTIES RESULTING FROM SUCH INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES. TO THIS PURPOSE, ACTUAL CASE STUDIES ARE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED.
THE COURSE IS AIMED TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE REGARDING MANUFACTURING OF COMPLEX MECHANICAL COMPONENTS, PLANNING AND DESIGN OF MANUFACTURING, EVALUATION OF THE MECHANICAL AND STRUCTURAL PROPERTIES RESULTING FROM SUCH INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES. TO THIS PURPOSE, ACTUAL CASE STUDIES ARE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED.
SINCE SUCH PROCESSES ARE TYPICALLY REFERRED AS DISCRETE AND SINCE THEY ARE EXPECTED TO REQUIRE A SERIES OF POST-PROCESSING OPERATIONS, A MORE IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS OF MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS IS ALSO PROVIDED IN THE COURSE, THEREFORE A NUMBER OF APPROACHES TO EVALUATE THE PERFORMANCES ARE PRESENTED, INCLUDING QUEUEING THEORY.

AM PROCESSES FOR POLYMERIC AND CERAMIC MATERIALS: STEREOLITHOGRAPHY, POLYJET, FUSED DEPOSITION MODELING, LAMINATED OBJECT MANUFACTURING, SELECTIVE LASER SINTERING.
AM PROCESS FOR METALS: ENERGY SOURCES, LASER AND ELECTRON BEAM TECHNOLOGY, METAL POWDERS, AM FOR DIRECT WIRE AND POWDER DEPOSITION, POWDER-IN-BED AM.

Teaching Methods
TEACHING INCLUDES THEORETICAL CLASSES, NUMERICAL EXERCISES AND LABORATORY, WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE PART IN JOB PLANNING AND RUNNING OF THE PROCESSES, TO THE PURPOSE OF OBTAINING REAL PARTS. DURING THE COURSE EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS AND SIMULATIONS ARE EVEN PRESENTED TO THE PURPOSE OF EASIER UNDERSTADING OF THE TOPICS. Verification of learning
EVALUATION CONSISTS IN THE ORAL EXAM REGARDING THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND THE ORAL DISCUSSION OF A SCIENTIFIC PAPER, GIVEN BY THE PROFESSOR, SO TO EVALUATE THE EXPERTISE IN CHOOSING THE PROPER PROCESS, DESIGNING, JOB PLANNING AND ANALYSES OF THE RESPONSES, EVEN IN TERMS OF PERFORMANCE INDEXES.
