THE COURSE PROVIDES THE RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE CONCERNING THE SCIENCE AND MANUFACTURING OF INNOVATIVE MATERIALS, SUCH AS ADVANCED COMPOSITE MATERIALS, AS WELL AS THE PROGRAMMING TECHNIQUES FOR COMPUTER NUMERICAL CONTROL (CNC) MACHINES FOR MACHINING OPERATIONS. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING KNOWLEDGE CONCERNING THE BASIC CONSTITUENTS AND THE PHYSICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF ADVANCED COMPOSITE MATERIALS, WITH SPECIFIC REFERENCE TO THERMOSET POLYMER MATRIX COMPOSITE MATERIALS (PMC), AS WELL AS TO PROCESSES USED TO MANUFACTURE STRUCTURAL (PMC) COMPONENTS. KNOWLEDGE CONCERING THE PROGRAMMING TECHNIQUES FOR CNC MACHINES AND CAPABILITY TO DEVELOP PART PROGRAMS FOR MECHANICAL COMPONENT MANUFACTURING. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING KNOWLEDGE AND CAPABILITY TO IDENTIFY BASIC CONSTITUENTS (MATRIX AND REINFORCEMENT) OF AN ADVANCED COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND FOR THE RATIONALE AND OPPORTUNE DEFINITION OF THE MANUFACTURING ROUTE OF A GENERIC COMPOSITE WORKPIECE. CAPABILITY TO DEVELOP A PART PROGRAMM FOR THE MACHINING OF A MECHANICAL COMPONENT. MAKING JUDGMENTS ABILITY TO DEFINE THE OPPORTUNE MANUFACTURING PROCESS FOR THE REALIZATION OF POLYMER MATRIX COMPOSITE COMPONENTS. ABILITY TO IDENTIFY OPTIMAL TOOL PATH FOR A MACHINING OPERATION USING A CNC MACHINE. COMMUNICATION SKILLS ABILITY TO COMMENT AND DISCUSS ON A TOPIC RELATED TO ADVANCED MATERIALS AND RELATED MANUFACTURING PROCESSES. LEARNING SKILLS ABILITY TO TRANSFER THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO OTHER CONTEXTS WITH RESPECT TO WHAT STRICTLY ANALYZED DURING THE LESSONS AND EXAMINE IN DEPTH THE DISCUSSED TOPICS. |

THE COURSE IS BASED IN THEORETICAL LECTURES AND EXERCITATIVE CLASSROOM LESSONS. EXERCIES AND PROBLEMS WILL BE SOLVED ADOPTING A TEAM WORK, WITH SUBSEQUENT SOLUTION PRESENTED BY THE LECTURER, IN ORDER TO ALLOW STUDENTS TO SELF-EVALUATE THEIR WORK. MOREOVER, LABORATORY ACTIVITIES WILL BE CARRIED OUT, PROVIDING SOME PRACTICAL EVIDENCE OF MACHINES AND MANUFACTURING PROCESSES/MATERIALS. |
