Objectives
BASED ON THE THERMODYNAMICS AND HEAT TRANSFER FUNDAMENTALS, THE COURSE IS AIMED AT THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY WHICH IS ONE OF THE MAIN REQUIREMENTS PRESCRIBED BY THE EUROPEAN DIRECTIVE ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN BUILDINGS AND ONE OF THE MAIN GOALS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.
THE STUDENT GAINS KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY DESIGN IN TERMS OF THERMAL COMFORT AND INDOOR AIR QUALITY WHICH ARE CRUCIAL ISSUES OF THE HVAC DESIGN ACCORDING TO THE RECENT NORMATIVE DEVELOPMENT. THIS IS ESPECIALLY BECAUSE GOOD INDOOR AIR QUALITY IS ESSENTIAL TO REDUCE THE RISK OF CONTAGION IN THE EVENT OF EPIDEMICS. HE ALSO LEARNS EUROPEAN STANDARDS AND ITALIAN LAWS RELATED TO THE DESIGN OF THE INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY.
THE STUDENT IS TRAINED TO WORK IN GROUPS AND TO DISCUSS TOPICS RELATED TO THE ENERGY DESIGN OF ETHE BUILDING ENVELOPE. HE/SHE IS ABLE TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO DIFFERENT CONTEXTS AND TO DEEPEN THE TOPICS USING MATERIALS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED.
Prerequisites
THE STUDENT SHOULD KNOW THE PRINCIPLES OF THE APPLIED THERMODYNAMICS, HEAT TRANSFER AND ENERGETICS.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE, IN ITALIAN, CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS: THEORY LESSONS (52 H) AND LABORATORY ACTIVITIES (8 H). LABORATORY ACTIVITIES ARE AIMED AT SHOWING MEASUREMENT METHODS AND INSTRUMENTS OF THE MAIN PARAMETERS INVOLVED IN THERMAL COMFORT AND INDOOR AIR QUALITY ASSESSMENT.
Verification of learning
THE ASSESSMENT OF THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE TARGETS SET IS BASED UPON AN ORAL EXAM IN WHICH THE STUDENT DISCUSSES A DESIGN EXERCISE AND THE MAIN TOPICS OF THE COURSE. AS A MINIMUM THRESHOLD, THE STUDENT HAS TO DEMONSTRATE THAT HE/SHE UNDERSTANDS AND CAN APPLY THE MAIN CONCEPTS SET OUT IN THE COURSE. TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE, THE STUDENT HAS TO DEMONSTRATE A WIDE MATURITY IN THE COURSE CONTENTS AND A HIGH ABILITY OF EXPOSURE AND SYNTHESIS.
