Objectives | |
---|---|
The course allows to understand Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) problems and their solution methods. The course contains laboratory component. Knowledge and understanding: knowledge of electromagnetic interference (EMI) sources, EMC problems and their solution methods. Applying knowledge and understanding: capability to identify efficient solutions, from the EMC point of view, in the design of electronic systems at high frequency. Making judgments: capability of working in a laboratory, recognizing instrumentation and equipping the instrumental set-up for compatibility measurements. Learning skills: capability of working both alone and in a team, writing clear and organized technical reports, reading technical and scientific literature and communicating effectively. |

The course requires the knowledge of following topics: general theorems of the electromagnetisms, wave propagation in free space, wave propagation in waveguides. |

SOURCES OF ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE AND SHIELDING EFFECTIVENESS analysis of radiated and conducted interference sources, shielding effectiveness of a metallic shield (Hours: 15 theory - 4 exercises). GOVERNMENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND MEASUREMENT METHODOLOGY civil and military standards; conducted and radiated susceptibility; measurements of conducted and radiated emissions (Hours: 8 theory - 6 exercises - 2 laboratory). SYSTEM DESIGN FOR ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY simulation and modeling techniques for signal integrity and electromagnetic interference on electronic systems (Hours: 7 theory - 4 exercises). LABORATORY Measurement of conducted and radiated emissions, electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic pollution evaluation (Hours: 14 laboratory). |

AN ORAL EXAMINATION WILL BE USED TO ASSESS THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE FIXED GOALS. DURING THE EXAMINATION THE INDIVIDUAL TECHNICAL REPORT WILL BE DISCUSSED. IT IS MANDATORY FOR THE STUDENTS TO SHOW THEY HAVE UNDERSTOOD THE CONCEPTS ILLUSTRATED DURING THE COURSE AND, MOREOVER, THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO APPLY THEM. |
