Objectives

THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE BASIC ELEMENTS OF THE GENERAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES AND THE KEY CRITERIA FOR CHOOSING THE MAIN PLANT SERVICES, CONSIDERING THEIR TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC ASPECTS. THE COURSE ALSO WANTS TO PROVIDE BASIC METHODOLOGIES FOR THE REALIZATION OF NEW INDUSTRIAL INITIATIVES, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE TECHNICAL, ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL ASPECTS OF THE BUSINESS PLAN AND THE MAIN PROJECT MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUE.
THE EXPECTED SKILLS AT THE END OF THE COURSE ARE THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE GENERAL DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT CRITERIA OF SERVICE FACILITIES, THE ABILITY TO CARRY OUT THE SIZING OF THE MAIN TECHNICAL FACILITIES, AS WELL AS THE ABILITY TO PREPARE A PROJECT PLAN, TO PLAN PROJECT ACTIVITIES WITH ATTENTION TO TIMING AND COST PLANNING AND TO PROPERLY MONITOR ITS EXECUTION IN COMPLIANCE WITH EXISTING CONSTRAINTS.
Prerequisites
FOR THE SUCCESSFUL ACHIEVEMENT OF THE GOALS SET, TECHNOLOGICAL, ECONOMIC AND IT KNOWLEDGE OF THE INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING TRAINING AND ACQUIRED IN THE FIRST LEVEL DEGREE ARE REQUIRED.

INTRODUCTION TO PLANT SERVICES (7H T + 3H E). GENERAL DESIGN CRITERIA, CHOICE FACTORS, COMBINATORIAL RELIABILITY PRINCIPLES. DIMENSIONING OF CENTRAL, CENTRALIZED AND DECENTRALIZED PLANTS.
PIPING (2H T). MAIN PIPING ELEMENTS. CRITERIA FOR PUTTING INTO OPERATION. THE THERMAL EXPANSION OF THE PIPES.
INDUSTRIAL WATER SERVICE (5H T + 5H E). SUPPLYING. TANKS, PUMPS, HYDRAULIC CIRCUITS. THE INDUSTRIAL WATER TREATMENTS. DIMENSIONING OF A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM.
COMPRESSED AIR SERVICE (5H T + 3H E). COMPRESSION, TREATMENT, ACCUMULATION AND DISTRIBUTION OF AIR. DIMENSIONING OF A COMPRESSED AIR DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM.
THERMAL PLANTS (5H T + 3H E). HEAT TRANSFER FLUIDS. HEAT GENERATORS. STEAM DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS. SIZING OF STEAM SUPPLY LINES AND CONDENSATE RECOVERY.
ELECTRICAL SERVICE (5H T + 2H E). DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS. TRANSFORMATION CABINS. SWITCHBOARDS. MANEUVERING AND DISCONNECTING DEVICES. PROTECTIVE ORGANS. CABLE DIMENSIONING. DIMENSIONING OF AN ELECTRIC POWER DISTRIBUTION LINE.
LIGHTING ENGINEERING (3H T + 2H E). PHOTOMETRIC UNITS. LIGHT SOURCES. DESIGN OF A LIGHTING SYSTEM.
ECONOMIC OPTIMIZATION OF A SERVICE FACILITY PROJECT (5H E).
FEASIBILITY STUDY (20H T + 4H E): MARKET STUDY, LOCALIZATION ANALYSIS, TECHNICAL PROJECT, ECONOMIC PROJECT, STRUCTURAL INDEXES, FINANCIAL PROJECT.
PROJECT PLANNING (6H T + 6H E): INTRODUCTION TO THE PM, PROJECT PLAN, WBS, OBS.
PROGRAMMING OF PROJECT ACTIVITIES (6H T + 9H E): GANTT, RETICULAR TECHNIQUES, PERT, CPM.
PROJECT CONTROL (6H T + 3H E): COST CONTROL, EARNED VALUE, ESTIMATES AT COMPLETION, RISK MANAGEMENT.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES THEORETICAL LESSONS AND CLASSROOM EXERCISES RELATED TO EACH TOPIC BEING DISCUSSED. THE LATTER ARE AIMED AT VERIFYING THE ABILITY TO PUT INTO PRACTICE, ON CONCRETE CASES, THE CONCEPTS LEARNED DURING THE THEORETICAL LESSONS.
Verification of learning
LEARNING WILL BE VERIFIED WITH AN ORAL INTERVIEW IN WHICH THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE PROVIDED AND THE ABILITY TO PUT IT INTO PRACTICE WILL BE VERIFIED THROUGH QUESTIONS RELATED TO DIMENSIONING PROBLEMS, CHOICE OF FACILITIES, PLANNING AND CONTROL OF PROJECT ACTIVITIES. ORAL EVALUATION IS EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS FOR EACH QUESTION, AND THEN MEDIATED ON QUESTIONS. A SUFFICIENT VOTE (18) IS GIVEN TO THE SINGLE QUESTION WHEN THE STUDENT SHOWS ELEMENTARY BUT SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECT; THE MAXIMUM RATING (30) IS ATTRIBUTED TO THE ABILITY TO EXPLICITLY EXPOSE THE SYSTEM ASPECTS RELATED TO THE INDIVIDUAL QUESTION POSED WITH FULL AUTONOMY AND TECHNICAL LANGUAGE PROPERTIES. THE FINAL VOTE IS THE ARITHMETIC MEAN OF THE VOTING OF THE QUESTIONS. IN PARTICULAR, THE PRAISE WILL BE GIVEN IN THE PRESENCE OF A MAXIMUM VOTE AND ABILITY BY THE CANDIDATE TO DEMONSTRATE READINESS IN THE LINKS BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TOPICS AND INSIGHTS OF THEIR KNOWLEDGE BEYOND WHAT HAS BEEN EXPLAINED DURING THE LESSONS OF THE COURSE.
