Objectives
The course offers a general approach to address management problems in the organization of work and industrial production. Lean management of the "Operations" qualifies the most important manufacturers of world goods and services, it intends to control and reduce production costs systematically. The logical steps to implement the fundamentals of slim management are presented and discussed in order to show how through a detailed monitoring of the losses it is possible to identify the correlations between cost factors and improvement processes. Total Productive Maintenance, Just In Time and Total Quality Management are used to pursue the "zero goal" (zero waste, zero failures, zero inventory, zero defects) but with a focus on the continuous reduction of the total operating costs of a factory. The course deals with the description of the logic and principles that hold the whole system through theoretical lessons and case studies.
Prerequisites
Technological, economic and informatics knowledges are required for profitable achievement of the course's goals.
Contents
1) History and evolution of production systems
2) Creating Best Practices and Standard Concepts
3) TIE, principles for designing work areas
4) TPM, capital intensive systems management, and maintenance processes
5) JIT, Flow Management, and Logistics Complexity
6) TQC, management of continuous improvement
7) Creating Value in Processes and Key Performance Indicators
8) Personnel involvement
9) Purchasing Management and Vendor Development
10) Industrial applications and case studies
Teaching Methods
Teaching includes theoretical lessons and classroom exercises related to each subject being discussed. The latter are aimed at verifying the practical ability on concrete cases, the concepts learned during the theoretical lessons.
Verification of learning
The evaluation will consist of a final test supported by oral examination. The evaluation will aim at verifying both the basics of theoretical knowledge acquired and the knowledge of application cases presented, experimented and discussed during the course.
