Objectives
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
THE COURSE DEALS WITH THE BEHAVIOR OF MATERIALS, CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES, THE DESIGN CRITERIA OF STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS IN R.C., PRESTRESSED R.C. AND STRUCTURAL STEEL. THE DESIGN CRITERIA AND METHODS ARE ILLUSTRATED ACCORDING TO THE SEMI-PROBABILISTIC LIMIT STATE METHODS AND EUROPEAN STRUCTURAL CODES. STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF LINEAR ELASTIC AND ELASTIC-PLASTIC MODELS IS EXPLAINED.

PREREQUISITES
FOR THE SUCCESSFUL ACHIEVEMENT OF OBJECTIVES, KNOWLEDGE OF ANALYTICAL MECHANICS, THE THEORY OF BEAMS, STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF ISOSTATIC AND STATICALLY INDETERMINATED SYSTEMS ARE REQUIRED.

METHODS OF ANALYSIS OF STATICALLY INDETERMINATED STRUCTURES: FORCE AND DEFORMATION METHODS.
TYPES OF FOUNDATIONS AND RETAINING WALLS. ELEMENTS OF SOIL MECHANICS; TECHNOLOGY AND COMPUTATIONAL MODELS OF FOUNDATIONS ND RETAINING WALLS.
WITH REFERENCE TO STRUCTURAL STEEL: CALCULATION METHODS, TYPES OF ANALYSIS AND STRUCTURAL MODELS,AXIAL FORCE, MOMENT BENDING, MOMENT BENDING WITH AXIAL FORCE, SHEAR FORCE, TORSION, CRACKING; ELASTIC DEFORMATION OF THE ELEMENTS, BOLTED AND WELDED CONNECTIONS, EQUILIBRIUM AND STABILITY CRITERIA. CONSTRUCTION ASPECTS.
Teaching Methods
TEACHING METHODS
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF LECTURES AND CLASSROOM EXERCISES. IN CLASSROOM EXERCISES STUDENTS ARE GUIDED TO DESIGN SOME STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS IN (PRESTRESSED) REINFORCED CONCRETE AND STRUCTURAL STEEL. THE ELEMENTS TO BE DESIGNED ARE: A R.C. SLAB, PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BEAM AND A STEEL STRUCTURE.
Verification of learning
EXAM
THE ASSESSMENT OF THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES WILL BE VERIFIED THROUGH AN ORAL EXAM WITH DISCUSSION OF THE PROJECT.
