Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENTS WITH THE NECESSARY NOTIONS, AS WELL AS TOOLS AND METHODS FOR A CRITICAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE FUNDAMENTALS EVENTS OF THE HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE BAROQUE PERIOD.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY:
KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN LINES OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE HISTORY OF ANCIENT AND MODERN ARCHITECTURE; ACHIEVEMENT OF AN ADEQUATE ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE, DESCRIBE AND EVALUATE THE MAIN ARCHITECTURES OF THE PERIOD STUDIED.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
KNOWING HOW TO APPLY HISTORICAL METHODOLOGY AND ARCHIVE RESEARCH TO THE ANALYSIS OF A BUILDING OF THE PAST.

JUDGMENT AUTONOMY:
KNOWING HOW TO IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE METHODS FOR ANALYZING AN HISTORICAL BUILDING.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
KNOWING HOW TO ANALYZE AND DESCRIBE ORALLY, WITH APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY, AN HISTORICAL BUILDING.

Contents
THE COURSE FOCUSES ON HISTORY OF EUROPEAN ARCHITECTURE FROM THE BEGINNING OF EGYPTIAN CIVILIZATION, TO THE THRESHOLDS OF THE XVIII CENTURY, ANALYZING BOTH GENERAL AND LOCAL EVENTS.
THE PROGRAM INCLUDES THEREFORE THE CRITICAL ANALYSIS AND READING OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ANCIENTS ARCHITECTURES. THE LESSONS' CORPUS WILL BE COMPLETED WITH DETAILED STUDIES ON THE COSTRUCTIONS OR THEIR AUTHORS. THE COURSE INCLUDES ALSO THE HISTORY OF TECHNIQUES AND CONSTRUCTIVE SYSTEMS, AS WELL AS HISTORY OF REPRESENTATION METHODS, IN ADDITION TO THE NECESSARY REFERENCE TO THE HISTORY OF SOCIETY, CULTURE, IDEAS AND ART IN GENERAL, TO THE IDEAL PREMISES AND THE TYPOLOGICAL-FORMAL CHOICES INNATE IN THE ARCHITECTURE OF EACH PERIOD, HIGHLIGHTING CONTINUITY AND MOMENTS OF INNOVATION.

LESSONS IN THE CLASSROOM EXAMINE THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:
-EGYPTIAN ARCHITECTURE (4 H)
-CLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE (14 H)
-LATE ANTIQUITY AND BYZANTINE ARCHITECTURE (4 H)
-MEDIEVAL ARCHITECTURE (8 H)
-RENAISSANCE ARCHITECTURE (16 H)
-BAROQUE ARCHITECTURE (4 H)
PRACTICE ACTIVITIES: HISTORICAL-CRITICAL AND GRAPFHIC-DOCUMENTARY STUDY (40 H).
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES EX-CATHEDRA LESSONS AND SEMINARS OF THE TOTAL DURATION 50 HOURS (5 ECTS) AND EXERCISES THAT ARE CARRIED OUT IN THE CLASSROOM FOR A TOTAL 40 HOURS (4 CFU).
THEORETICAL LESSONS LEAD TO AN HISTORICAL AND CRITICAL READING OF THE ARCHITECTURES OF THE DIFFERENT ANALYZED PERIODS. IN ADDITION TO THE HISTORICAL METHODOLOGY, STYLISTIC, CONSTRUCTION AND ARCHITECTURAL ANALYSIS OF THE MANUFACTURES WILL BE CARRIED OUT.
THE EXERCISES IN THE CLASSROOM INCLUDE HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS ON THEMES TREATED IN THEORETICAL LESSONS. DURING THE HOURS PROVIDED FOR EXERCISES IN THE CLASSROOM, THE STUDENTS WILL ALSO WORKING ON A THEME TO DEVELOP DURING THE ENTIRE COURSE: THIS THEME WILL BE AGREED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR WITH THE PROFESSOR. THE FREQUENCY OF LESSONS AND EXERCISES IN THE CLASSROOM IS OBLIGATORY. IN ORDER TO SUSTAIN THE FINAL EXAM, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 70% OF THE HOURS OF THE TEACHING.
THE CHECK OF THE PRESENCE IS GENERALLY OF ELECTRONIC TYPE, OR IT WILL BE EXPLAINED BY THE PROFESSOR AT THE BEGINNING OF LESSONS.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES WILL BE VERIFIED THROUGH AN ORAL FINAL EXAM AT THE END OF THE COURSE. THE ORAL TEST IS VALIDATED IN THIRTIETHS AND IS EXCEEDED WITH A MINIMUM OF 18/30. IT INCLUDES QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION ON THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS OF THE TEACHING PROGRAM. THE EXAM IS AIMED TO KNOW THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT, AS WELL AS TO VERIFY THE EXPOSURE CAPACITY USING APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY AND THE ABILITY OF ORGANIZATION OF EXPOSURE ON ARGUMENTS WITH A THEORETICAL CONTENT. THIS EXAM INCLUDES ALSO THE DISCUSSION ON THE WORKING THEME OF THE YEAR.
THE MINIMUM LEVEL OF EVALUATION (18) IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT HAS A KNOWLEDGE LIMITED TO BASIC CONCEPTS, CHRONOLOGICALLY AND STYLISTICALLY, ON THE VARIOUS TOPICS AND.
THE MAXIMUM LEVEL OF EVALUATION (30) IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT SHOWS AN IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE CHARACTERISTICS AND SPECIFICITIES OF ARCHITECTURAL STYLES, MAIN ARCHITECTURES AND AUTHORS TREATED.
« LODE » IS GIVEN WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT AND COMPLETE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONTENTS AND SHOWS THAT HE IS ABLE TO PRESENT THE SUBJECTS WITH REMARKABLE PROPERTIES OF LANGUAGE AND ABILITY TO AUTONOMOUS ANALYSIS ALSO IN CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER.
