EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES AND COMPETENCE TO BE ACQUIRED: ACQUIRE THE NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE AS WELL AS THE METHODS AND TOOLS FOR A CRITICAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ARCHITECTURAL EVENTS FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE NEOCLASSICAL PERIOD. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY: BEING AWARE OF THE MAIN LINES OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE UNTIL THE 18TH CENTURY; ACHIEVING AN ADEQUATE ABILITY TO RECOGNISE, DESCRIBE AND EVALUATE THE MAIN ARCHITECTURES OF THE ANALYZED PERIOD. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: BEING ABLE TO APPLY ACQUIRED HISTORICAL METHODOLOGY AND ARCHIVE RESEARCH TO THE ANALYSIS OF AN ANCIENT BUILDING. JUDGMENT AUTONOMY: KNOWING HOW TO IDENTIFY THE MOST APPROPRIATE METHODS FOR ANALYZING AN HISTORICAL BUILDING AND BEING ABLE TO DEVELOP LINKS BETWEEN ARCHITECTURES OF DIFFERENT PERIODS AND STYLES. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: KNOWING HOW TO ANALYZE AND DESCRIBE ORALLY, WITH APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY, AN HISTORICAL BUILDING. ABILITY TO LEARN: KNOWING HOW TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO ANY HISTORICAL BUILDING AND ALSO TO AN HISTORICAL-ARCHIVAL-ARCHITECTURAL RESEARCH. |

THE PROGRAMME INCLUDES A VERY WIDE CHRONOLOGY FROM EGYPTIAN CIVILIZATION TO THE EARLY XVIII CENTURY. THE ANALYSIS AND CRITICAL READING OF THE SELECTED ARCHITECTURES WILL HIGHLIGHT CONTINUITY AND PERIODS OF INNOVATION WITHOUT NEGLECTING REFERENCES TO THE HISTORY OF SOCIETY, CULTURE, IDEAS AND ART IN GENERAL AS IDEAL PREMISES FOR THE TYPOLOGICAL AND FORMAL CHOICES INVOLVED IN THE ARCHITECTURE OF ALL TIMES. LESSONS WILL EXAMINE THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: -EGYPTIAN ARCHITECTURE (2 HOURS) -PRE-HELLENIC ARCHITECTURE (2 HOURS) -CLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE (20 HOURS) -LATE ANTIQUITY AND BYZANTINE ARCHITECTURE (6 HOURS) -MEDIOEVAL ARCHITECTURE (18 HOURS) -RENAISSANCE ARCHITECTURE (16 HOURS) -BAROQUE ARCHITECTURE (10 HOURS) -NEOCLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE (6 HOURS) -PRACTICE ACTIVITIES (DOCUMENTARY RESEARCH, HISTORICAL-CRITICAL ANALYSIS, GRAPHIC WORKS) AND SITE VISITS (40 HOURS). |
Teaching Methods | |

THE COURSE INCLUDES EX-CATHEDRA LESSONS AND SEMINARS OF THE TOTAL DURATION 80 HOURS (8 ECTS), PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN THE CLASSROOM AND SITE VISITS FOR A TOTAL 40 HOURS (4 CFU). THEORETICAL LESSONS LEAD TO AN HISTORICAL AND CRITICAL READING OF THE ARCHITECTURES OF THE DIFFERENT ANALYZED PERIODS. IN ADDITION TO THE HISTORICAL METHODOLOGY, STYLISTIC, CONSTRUCTION AND ARCHITECTURAL ANALYSIS OF THE MANUFACTURES WILL BE CARRIED OUT. PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES IN THE CLASSROOM AND SITE VISITS INCLUDE HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS ON THEMES TREATED IN THEORETICAL LESSONS. THE FREQUENCY OF LESSONS AND PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES IN THE CLASSROOM IS OBLIGATORY. IN ORDER TO SUSTAIN THE FINAL EXAM, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 70% OF THE HOURS OF THE TEACHING. THE CHECK OF THE PRESENCE IS GENERALLY OF ELECTRONIC TYPE, OR IT WILL BE EXPLAINED BY THE PROFESSOR AT THE BEGINNING OF LESSONS. |

THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES WILL BE VERIFIED THROUGH AN ORAL FINAL EXAM AT THE END OF THE COURSE. THE ORAL TEST IS VALIDATED IN THIRTIETHS AND IS EXCEEDED WITH A MINIMUM OF 18/30. IT INCLUDES QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION ON THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS OF THE TEACHING PROGRAM. THE EXAM IS AIMED TO KNOW THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT, AS WELL AS TO VERIFY THE EXPOSURE CAPACITY USING APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY AND THE ABILITY OF ORGANIZATION OF EXPOSURE ON ARGUMENTS WITH A THEORETICAL CONTENT. THIS EXAM INCLUDES ALSO THE DISCUSSION ON THE PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUR DURING THE YEAR. THE MINIMUM LEVEL OF EVALUATION (18) IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT HAS A KNOWLEDGE LIMITED TO BASIC CONCEPTS, CHRONOLOGICALLY AND STYLISTICALLY, ON THE VARIOUS TOPICS. THE MAXIMUM LEVEL OF EVALUATION (30) IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT SHOWS AN IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE CHARACTERISTICS AND SPECIFICITIES OF ARCHITECTURAL STYLES, MAIN ARCHITECTURES AND AUTHORS TREATED. «LODE» IS GIVEN WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT AND COMPLETE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONTENTS AND SHOWS THAT HE IS ABLE TO PRESENT THE SUBJECTS WITH REMARKABLE PROPERTIES OF LANGUAGE AND ABILITY TO AUTONOMOUS ANALYSIS ALSO IN CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER. |
