Objectives
THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE BASIS OF PHYSICS , BIOCHEMISTRY AND STATISTICS TO EFFECTIVELY ADDRESS THE ISSUES OF THE DEGREE COURSE IN FISIOTERAPY. IN PARTICULAR, THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS THAT THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE DURING THE COURSE ARE:


KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN ISSUES OF PHYSICS, BIOCHEMISTRY AND STATISTICS CRITICALLY UNDERSTANDING ALSO LIMITS OF VALIDITY AND APPLICABILITY IN REAL CONTEXTS (KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING).

ABILITY TO APPLY THE MODELS OF PHYSICS, BIOCHEMISTRY AND STATISTICS TO QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE DESCRIPTION OF REAL CASES IN INTERDISCIPLINARY CONTEXTS OF INTEREST TO THE DEGREE COURSE, ALSO IN CONNECTION TO THEIR INTRINSIC APPROXIMATIONS (APPLIED KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING).

ABILITY TO INTEGRATE THE NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE AND MANAGE THE COMPLEXITY OF THE INFORMATION IN THE APPLICATION OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF PHYSICS, BIOCHEMISTRY AND STATISTICS (INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT).

ABILITY TO PRESENT TOPICS COVERED IN THE COURSE OF PHYSICS, BIOCHEMISTRY AND STATISTICS WITH PROPERTIES AND SIMPLICITY OF LANGUAGE, AIMED ALSO TO A CLEAR AND EFFECTIVE TRANSMISSION OF CONTENTS AND RESULTS IN INTERDISCIPLINARY CONTEXTS (COMMUNICATION).

ABILITY TO EXPAND AND DEEPEN THE THEMES OF PHYSICS, BIOCHEMISTRY AND STATISTICS AND THEIR INTERDISCIPLINARY APPLICATIONS IN AN AUTONOMOUS WAY (LEARNING SKILLS).

AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL KNOW THE STRUCTURE OF THE MAIN MOLECULES OF BIOCHEMICAL INTEREST AND HAVE UNDERSTOOD THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF BIOENERGETICS FOR THE STUDY OF METABOLISM. MOREOVER, IT SHOULD KNOW THE MAIN TECHNOLOGIES USED IN MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTICS.
Prerequisites
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ACQUIRED THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELDS OF BIOLOGY, MATHEMATICS AND GEOMETRY PROVIDED BY NORMAL STUDY PROGRAMS OF HIGH SCHOOLS.

MODULE 1 – PHYSICS

INTRODUCTION: THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD; PHYSICAL QUANTITIES; SYSTEMS OF UNITS OF MEASUREMENT.
MECHANICS OF SOLIDS: VELOCITY AND ACCELERATION; LINEAR MOTION; CIRCULAR MOTION; PRINCIPLES OF DYNAMICS; GRAVITATIONAL FORCE; WEIGHT FORCE; SPRING FORCE; CONSTRAINTS AND CONSTRAINT FORCES; FRICTIONAL FORCES; WORK; ENERGY; THEOREM OF KINETIC ENERGY; MECHANICAL ENERGY AND ITS CONSERVATION.
MECHANICS OF LIQUIDS: PROPERTIES; PRESSURE; STEVIN'S LAW; ARCHIMEDES' PRINCIPLE; PASCAL'S PRINCIPLE; CONTINUITY EQUATION; BERNOULLI'S THEOREM; TORRICELLI’S THEOREM; REAL LIQUIDS.
MECHANICS OF GASES: TEMPERATURE AND HEAT; MECHANISMS OF HEAT TRANSFER; IDEAL GAS LAW; PRINCIPLES OF THERMODYNAMICS; ACOUSTIC WAVES; VELOCITY OF PROPAGATION; DOPPLER EFFECT; ULTRASOUNDS.
ELECTROMAGNETICS: ELECTRIC CHARGE; COULOMB'S LAW; ELECTRIC FIELD; FIELD LINES; DIELECTRICS; ELECTRIC POLARIZATION; MAGNETS; MAGNETIC FIELDS; FORCES ON MOVING CHARGES; LORENTZ FORCE; ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES.
OPTICS: GEOMETRICAL OPTICS; REFLECTION AND REFRACTION; INDICES OF REFRACTION; TOTAL REFLECTION AND CRITICAL ANGLE; MIRRORS AND LENSES; THIN LENSES; LAW OF CONJUGATE POINTS.

MODULE 2 - GENERAL BIOCHEMISTRY

- STRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES OF THE MAIN MACROMOLECULES OF BIOLOGICAL INTEREST.
- AMINO ACIDS AND PEPTIDES. PEPTIDE BOND. PROTEIN STRUCTURE. FIBROUS PROTEINS: COLLAGEN; GLOBULAR PROTEINS: MYOGLOBIN AND HEMOGLOBIN. ENZYMES AND PRINCIPLES OF ENZYMATIC KINETICS.
- BIOENERGETICS PRINCIPLES. ATP.
- CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM. GLYCOLYSIS AND FERMENTATION. GLYCOGEN METABOLISM
- METABOLISM OF LIPIDS AND AMINO ACIDS.
- KREBS CYCLE. ELECTRON TRANSPORT CHAIN AND OXIDATIVE PHOSPHORYLATION.

MODULE 3 – STATISTICS

PROBABILITY: CONDITIONAL AND COMPOSED PROBABILITY; COMBINATORIAL ANALYSIS; LINK BETWEEN A PRIORI PROBABILITY AND RELATIVE FREQUENCY.
DISTRIBUTIONS: DISTRIBUTIONS AND FREQUENCIES; INDICES OF THE DISTRIBUTION; MEASURES OF DISPERSION; CONTINUOUS PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTIONS; DISCRETE PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTIONS; DISTRIBUTION T OF STUDENT; 2; DISTRIBUTION F OF FISCHER; DEGREES OF FREEDOM; INTRODUCTION TO SIMULATION TECHNIQUES OF EXPERIMENTS.
STATISTICAL INFERENCE: THEORY OF THE SAMPLES; ESTIMATION THEORY; THEORY OF DECISIONS; THE 2 TESTS; ANALYSIS OF THE VARIANCE; THE FISHER TEST FOR THE VARIANCES; THE T TEST OF STUDENT; THE MC NEMAR TEST.
INTERPOLATION AND LEAST SQUARES: INTERPOLATION; EXTRAPOLATION; LEAST SQUARES; OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE METHOD OF LEAST SQUARES; NUMERICAL EXAMPLES; TIME SERIES.
THEORY OF ERRORS: MEASUREMENT ERRORS; SYSTEMATIC ERRORS; ACCIDENTAL ERRORS; INDIRECT MEASUREMENTS; ERROR PROPAGATION.


Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES LECTURES FOR A TOTAL OF 72 HOURS. CLASSROOM ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. IN ORDER TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 75% OF THE TEACHING HOURS. THE MODE OF VERIFICATION OF PRESENCE IS MADE KNOWN BY THE TEACHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LESSONS.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EXAMINATION WITH EVALUATION IN THIRTIETHS. THE FINAL EXAM CONSISTS OF AN INTERVIEW AIMED TO ASSESS THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE STUDENT OF ISSUES PRESENTED IN THE COURSE AND HIS DISCUSSION ABILITY. THE TEST GLOBALLY ALLOWS TO ASSESS THE CAPABILITY TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, AND THE CAPABILITY TO EXPLAIN AND TO PROCESS SOLUTIONS WITH AN INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT. THE TEACHERS HOLDING THE COORDINATED MODULES PARTICIPATE IN THE OVERALL COLLEGIAL ASSESSMENT OF THE STUDENT'S PROFIT.
