Objectives
KNOWLEDGE OF THE METHODS OF MORPHOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION AND OF THE HISTOLOGY LABORATORY; KNOWLEDGE OF THE STRUCTURE AND ULTRASTRUCTURE OF THE CELL (IN CONNECTION WITH THE BIOLOGY) AND OF THE FUNDAMENTAL TISSUES, OF THE
DIFFERENTIATION, GROWTH AND STAGES LEADING TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE HUMAN ORGANISM, THEREIN
INCLUDING THE MAIN MORPHOGENETIC FACTORS AND REGULATORY GENES. KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN CLINICAL ASPECTS
DERIVING FROM HISTOGENETIC, MORPHOGENETIC AND DEVELOPMENTAL ALTERATIONS.
Prerequisites
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, IE CELL STRUCTURE AND ITS ORGANELLES, MECHANISMS OF REGULATION AND SIGNAL TRANSDUCTION, TRANSCRIPTION AND TRANSLATION, CELLULAR METABOLISM. HE WILL ALSO HAVE TO HAVE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE.

ADHESION MOLECULES (CAM). STEM CELLS AND DIFFERENTIATION. POLARIZATION. FOR EACH TISSUE IS REQUIRED A GENERAL KNOWLEDGE AND THE SPECIFIC ORGANISATIONS: CELL TYPES, EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX AND ITS COMPONENTS, HISTOGENESIS, HISTODIFFERENTIATION, REGENERATION POSSIBILITY.
EPITHELIUM: CLASSIFICATION. SURFACE SPECIALIZATIONS. SPECIALIZED JUNCTIONAL STRUCTURES AND CYTOSKELETON.
EXOCRINE AND ENDOCRINE GLANDS.
SENSORIAL EPITHELIA. PARTICULARLY DIFFERENTIATED EPITHELIA.
CONNECTIVE TISSUE: MATRIX, FIBERS AND CELLS OF THE CONNECTIVE TISSUE. TYPES OF CONNECTIVE TISSUE.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE IS STRUCTURED IN SUCH A WAY AS TO INCLUDE LECTURES FOR THE THEORETICAL PART AND PRACTICAL EXERCISES FOR THE ANALYSIS OF HISTOLOGICAL PREPARATIONS. AT EACH THEORETICAL LESSON CORRESPONDS A LABORATORY IN WHICH THE STUDENT CAN APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED IN CLASS.
Verification of learning
VERIFICATION OF LEARNING TAKES PLACE BY ORAL INTERVIEW WITH THE TEACHER
AND CONSISTS IN THE ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT HISTOLOGICAL IMAGES WHERE THE STUDENT WILL HAVE TO RECOGNIZE THE TISSUE AND DESCRIBE ITS CHARACTERISTICS; THIS PHASE IS FOLLOWED BY THE VERIFICATION OF THE THEORETICAL PART OF HISTOLOGY AND EMBRYOLOGY
