Objectives
THIS COURSE INVESTIGATES THE MAIN POLICY FIELDS CONCERNING DIGITAL
TECHNOLOGIES: ELECTORNIC GOVERNMENT, DIGITAL DEMOCRACY, INTERNET
GOVERNANCE.
THE TEACHING, WHICH INCLUDES BOTH LECTURES AND LAB EXERCISES, HAS THE
PURPOSE TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS TO PLAN,
ANALYSE AND EVALUATE PUBLIC POLICIES FOCUSED ON INFORMATION AND
COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES. THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO HELP STUDENTS
IN DEVELOPING THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABOUT DIGITAL
NETWORKS, BOTH AT THE GLOBAL AND THE LOCAL LEVELS. THROUGH THE STUDY
OF THE MAIN ISSUES OF DIGITAL POLICY-MAKING, and particularly cybersecurity, STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO
BETTER UNDERSTAND HOW DIGITAL NETWORKS WORK AND HOW THEY ARE
CONFIGURED, MANAGED AND REGULATED.
Prerequisites
A BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND WRITTEN TEXTS IS
BENEFICIAL.

THE COURSE IS ARTICULATED IN THREE MODULES, EACH ONE COVERING A
SPECIFIC ISSUE OF THE INTERNET POLICY FIELD: E-GOVERNMENT, DIGITAL
DEMOCRACY AND INTERNET GOVERNANCE.
IN THE FIRST PART OF THE COURSE THE ISSUE OF THE DIGITALIZATION OF PUBLIC
ADMINISTRATIONS IS ADDRESSED. THE SECOND MODULE FOCUSES ON DIGITAL
REGIMES AND E-DEMOCRACY MODELS. THE THIRD PART OF THE COURSE IS
DEDICATED TO THE ANALYSIS OF PROCESSES AND ACTORS REGULATING INTERNET
ARCHITECTURES.
Teaching Methods
FOR EACH OF THE THREE SECTIONS OF THE COURSE THERE WILL BE 5 LECTURES
EXPLAINING THEORIES, CATEGORIES AND CONCEPTUAL MODELS, AND FIVE
EXERCISES FOR THEIR EMPIRICAL VERIFICATION AND FOR THE ACQUISITION OF
ANALITYCAL SKILLS.
Verification of learning
STUDENTS WHO ATTEND THE COURSE SHOULD PRESENT BRIEF REPORTS ABOUT
THEIR LAB ACTIVITIES. AN ORAL EXAME IS THERE FOR STUDENTS NOT ATTENDING
THE COURSE.
