Objectives
THE COURSE ENCOURAGES REFLECTION ON THE POLITICAL, INSTITUTIONAL, SOCIO-ECONOMIC, CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS ASPECTS THAT HAVE CHARACTERIZED THE HISTORY OF PRE-UNIFIED SOUTHERN ITALY, WITH A CONTEXTUALIZATION AND COMPARISON WITH EUROPEAN HISTORY.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY: THE STUDENT IS INTRODUCED TO THE METHODS OF HISTORICAL ANALYSIS OF CASES OF "BACKWARDNESS" AND TO THE SPECIFIC PROBLEMS OF THE SOUTHERN HISTORY, INCLUDING THE LONG-TERM ASPECTS OF THEM.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE STUDENT LEARNS TO INSERT THE PECULIAR ASPECTS OF TODAY'S SOUTHERN SOCIETY, INCLUDING THOSE THAT INVOLVE PROCESSES OF MARGINALIZATION AND EXCLUSION, WITHIN THE BROADER HISTORY OF SOUTHERN ITALY. THE TOPICS DEVELOP HISTORICAL ANALYSIS OF THE TERRITORY IN WHICH EDUCATIONAL ACTION IS PERFORMED AND GIVE A CORRECT APPROACH TO THE CONTEMPORARY DYNAMICS AND PROBLEMS.

THE COURSE PROPOSES THE STUDY OF THE MAIN POLITICAL, SOCIAL, ADMINISTRATIVE AND CULTURAL ASPECTS THAT HAVE CHARACTERIZED THE HISTORY OF THE SOUTHERN ITALY, INCLUDED IN WIDE FRAMEWORKS OF THE ITALIAN AND EUROPEAN HISTORY. IN PARTICULAR, THE LESSONS WILL FOCUS ON THE EARLY MODERN AGE, FROM THE ENTRY OF THE KINGDOM OF NAPLES INTO THE SPANISH EMPIRE UNTIL THE UNITY OF ITALY. THE MAIN ARGUMENTS WILL BE THE FOLLOWING: THE KINGDOM OF NAPLES IN THE SPANISH IMPERIAL SYSTEM; FROM THE REVOLT OF MASANIELLO TO THE END OF THE SPANISH VICEROYALTY; THE AUSTRIAN VICEROYALTY; THE BOURBON KINGDOM; THE 1799 REVOLUTION; THE NAPOLEONIC DECADE; THE KINGDOM OF THE TWO SICILIES; THE END OF THE KINGDOM AND THE ITALIAN UNIFICATION.
Teaching Methods
THIS TEACHING USES THE FOLLOWING METHODOLOGIES:

-LESSONS, ALSO USING MASS-MEDIA, WITH A FINAL DISCUSSION WITH STUDENTS.
-LECTURES BASED ON SHORT REPRESENTATIVE HISTORICAL TEXTS, WITH ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION BY THE WHOLE CLASS.
Verification of learning
FINAL ORAL EXAMINATION VERIFIES OBJECTIVES ABOUT KNOWLEDGE, CORRECT LANGUAGE, CRITICAL CAPACITIES. IT CONSISTS IN QUESTIONS ON THE SUBJECTS SUBMITTED DURING THE LESSONS AND REPERIBLE IN THE PRESCRIPTED BOOKS. IT CHECKS THE LEARNING OF THE CONTENTS, THE DISCUSSION CAPACITY, THE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE.
