Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE AIMS AT PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH SOME BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF ARITHMETICS, MATHEMATICAL LOGIC, PROBABILITY THEORY. BESIDES THE COURSE AIMS AT ILLUSTRATING THE MAIN RESEARCHES IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION AND THE DIFFERENT METHODOLOGIES IN THIS FIELD, IN PARTICULAR THE ONES REGARDING THE USE OF ARTIFACTS IN LABORATORY ACTIVITIES.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE AIMS AT MAKING THE STUDENTS ABLE TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO THE ELABORATION AND RESOLUTION OF SIMPLE PROBLEMS, MEANINGFUL FOR MATHEMATICS TEACHING IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS. BESIDES STUDENTS, STARTING FROM THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE RESULTS OF THE RESEARCHES IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION AND FROM THE LABORATORY EXPERIENCES CARRIED OUT DURING THE COURSE, BECOME ABLE TO APPLY IN A CRITICAL WAY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN THEIR FUTURE TEACHING ACTIVITY.
MAKING JUDGMENTS: STUDENTS ARE GUIDED TO LEARN IN A CRITICAL WAY AND TO WIDEN IN AN AUTONOMOUS WAY THE ISSUES THE COURSE DEALS WITH. THE COURSE IS ALSO AIMED AT MAKING STUDENTS ABLE TO ENRICH ONE'S JUDGMENTS' CAPABILITIES BY MEANS OF THE STUDY OF THE DIDACTIC MATERIALS AND OF THE LABORATORY ACTIVITIES. IN PARTICULAR THE COURSE AIMS AT SUPPORTING STUDENTS IN THINKING OVER THE DIFFERENT EDUCATIONAL METHODOLOGIES RELATED TO MATHEMATICS TEACHING IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: THE COURSE AIMS AT PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH LINGUISTIC AND MATHEMATICAL TOOLS TO ALLOW THEM TO COMMUNICATE IDEAS AND PROBLEMS ABOUT MATHEMATICS, BOTH IN SCIENTIFIC DISCUSSIONS AND IN DIDACTIC SITUATIONS IN THEIR FUTURE TEACHING ACTIVITIES.
LEARNING SKILLS: THE COURSE AIMS AT MAKING STUDENTS ABLE TO DEEPEN IN AN AUTONOMOUS WAY THEIR STUDIES IN MATHEMATICS AND IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION, IN ORDER TO SUCCEED IN USING THE ACQUIRED COMPETENCES IN THE FUTURE TEACHING ACTIVITIES, BOTH FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF THE CONTENTS AND FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF THE METHODOLOGIES.

THE ASSESSMENT WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY MEANS OF WRITTEN AND ORAL EXHAMINATIONS. DURING THE EXAMINATION KNOWLEDGE OF THE MATHEMATICAL CONTENT OF THE ARGUMENTS, CAPABILITY TO EXPOSE THEM IN A CRITICAL MANNER AND TO CONTEXTUALIZE THEM IN THE FIELD OF TEACHING MATHEMATICS WILL BE EVALUATED.
