Objectives
THE AIM IS TO GIVE BASIC KNOWLEDGE MAINLY ABOUT GEOMETRY AND TO DEAL WITH THE MAIN RESEARCHES IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION, IN THIS FIELD, USEFUL TOOLS FOR THE TEACHING IN PRIMARY SCHOOL AND IN KINDERGARTEN. THE AIM IS ALSO THE DEVELOPMENT OF CAPABILITIES IN PROBLEM SOLVING AND IN PROVING SIMPLE THEOREMS. THE IMPROVEMENT OF LANGUAGE CAPABILITIES IS ANOTHER IMPORTANT AIM.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
- BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN GEOMETRY;
- KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN RESEARCHES IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION IN THIS FIELD.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
SUPPORT STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN ADDRESSING SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS FOR TEACHING GEOMETRY IN PRIMARY SCHOOL AND IN KINDERGARTEN, OVERCOMING THE MAIN MISCONCEPTIONS THAT PERTURB THE FORMATION.
Prerequisites
NO PREREQUISITE, BUT THE COURSE MATEMATICA DI BASE E DIDATTICA DELLA MATEMATICA IS RECOMMENDED AS PREPARATORY.
Contents
BASIC DEFINITIONS OF GEOMETRY IN THE PLANE, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO TRIANGLES. SOME THEOREMS OF GEOMETRY IN THE PLANE. GEOMETRIC TRANSFORMATIONS. PAPER FOLDING METHOD. THOERY OF THE EQUIDECOMPOSABLE FIGURES. AREA OF GEOMETRIC FIGURES. SQUARE’S DIAGONAL AND SIDE INCOMMENSURABILITY. ELEMENTS OF ANALYTIC GEOMETRY, CIRCUMFERENCE AND CIRCLE. THE PI CONSTANT. SOLID GEOMETRY, VOLUMES, PLATONIC SOLIDS.
Teaching Methods
MOST OF THE COURSE IS DEVELOPED IN AN INTERACTIVE WAY, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE METHODOLOGY OF SOCIAL CONSTRUCTIVISM. PROBLEM SOLVING ACTIVITIES ARE PROPOSED, AIMED TO THE REINFORCEMENT OF THE MATHEMATICAL KNOWLEDGE THE COURSE DEALS WITH. SOME ACTIVITIES ARE CARRIED OUT IN A DIDACTICAL LABORATORY EQUIPPED WITH DIDACTICAL ARTEFACTS. THE EXPERIMENTAL METHOD IN STUDYING SOME OF THE GEOMETRICAL TOPICS WILL BE APPLIED TOO.
Verification of learning
THE ASSESSMENT WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY MEANS OF WRITTEN AND ORAL EXAMINATIONS.
THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION IS PRELIMINARY TO THE ORAL INTERVIEW. IT CONSISTS OF SIMPLE PROBLEMS AND ARGUMENTATIONS. IN BOTH THE EXAMINATIONS NOT ONLY THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MATHEMATICAL CONTENT WILL BE EVALUATED, BUT ALSO THE CAPABILITY IN PROBLEM SOLVING AND THE ARGUMENTATIVE CAPABILITIES.
