Objectives
THE COURSE WILL ANALYSE THE MAIN PHASES OF THE CONTEMPORARY AGE, WITH A MAIN FOCUS ON THE POLITICAL, SOCIAL AND INSTITUTIONAL CHANGES OCCURRED DURING THE NINETEENTH AND THE TWENTIETH CENTURY.
Prerequisites
IT IS REQUESTED THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE 19TH CENTURY'S ITALIAN, EUROPEAN AND GLOBAL HISTORY.
Contents
THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON THE HISTORY OF THE 19TH AND THE 20TH CENTURY. THEREFORE, THE MAIN INTERNATIONAL EVENTS WILL BE ANALYSED (MORE SPECIFICALLY: THE "BISMARCKIAN" ORDER AND ITS CRISIS; THE TWO WORLD WARS; THE AGE OF TOTALITARIANISMS; THE GLOBAL ORDER AFTER 1945; THE COLD WAR; THE DECOLONIZATION PROCESS; EUROPEAN INTEGRATION; AND THE POST-1989 WORLD ORDER). MOREOVER, THERE WOULD BE AN INSIGHT ON THE ITALIAN HISTORY FROM THE UNIFICATION TO THE CRISIS OF THE SO CALLED FIRST REPUBLIC.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF 48 HOURS, DIVIDED INTO:
- TRADITIONAL LESSONS ON MAIN THEMES FOLLOWED BY CLASS DEBATES;
- INSIGHT SEMINARS.
Verification of learning
THREE WRITTEN IN-COURSE TESTS;
ORAL FINAL EXAMINATION.
