Computer science Enrollment
To enroll in the Computer Science Bachelor’s Degree Program, it is necessary to take part in a mandatory assessment access test. The test aims to assess student's aptitude and his degree of preparation in mathematics, logic and verbal comprehension. The test is mandatory and based on the results, specific additional Educational Obligations can be assigned to the students. The Test is the TOLC-I, which is managed by CISIA.
The TOLC-I structure consists of 50 questions divided into 4 sections.
The sections are: Mathematics, Logic, Sciences, Reading Comprehension.
SECTIONS | NUMBER OF QUESTIONS | TIME ALLOTTED |
MATHEMATICS | 20 QUESTIONS | 50 MINUTES |
LOGIC | 10 QUESTIONS | 20 MINUTES |
SCIENCES | 10 QUESTIONS | 20 MINUTES |
READING COMPREHENSION | 10 QUESTIONS | 20 MINUTES |
TOTAL | 50 QUESTIONS | 110 MINUTES |
The outcome of each TOLC is determined by the number of questions answered right, wrong or unanswered which make up the total score as follows: 1 point for each correct answer, 0 points for each unanswered question and a penalty of 0.25 points for each incorrect answer.

GETTING READY FOR THE TEST
To pass the test you need to have good logical reasoning skills and understanding of the text. Knowledge of the following basic notions of mathematics is assumed.
Logic and Reading Comprehension – The logic and reading comprehension questions seek to test in particular the candidate’s aptitude rather than the skills acquired in secondary school. Therefore, they do not require a specific preparation.
Mathematics, Arithmetic and Algebra – Properties and operations on numbers (integers, rationals, real numbers). Absolute value. Powers and square roots. Logarithms and exponentials. Symbolic mathematics. Polynomials (operations, factorisations). First and second degree algebraic equations and inequalities or reducible. Systems of first degree equations. Fractional rational equations and inequalities and with radicals. Geometry, segments and angles; measurements and properties. Lines and planes. Significant loci. Properties of the main plane geometric figures (triangles, circles, regular polygons, etc.) and their perimeters and areas. Properties of the main solid geometric figures (spheres, cones, cylinders, prisms, parallelepipeds, pyramids, etc.) and their volumes and areas.
Analytic geometry and numeric functions – Cartesian coordinates. The concept of function. Equations of lines and of simple loci (circles, ellipses, parabolas, etc.). Graphs and properties of elementary functions (powers, logarithms, exponentials, etc.). Calculations with logarithms. Equations and inequalities with logarithms or exponentials.
Trigonometry – Graphs and properties of sine, cosine and tangent. The main trigonometric formulas (addition, subtraction, duplication, bisection). Trigonometric equations and inequalities. Relations between the elements of a triangle.
Statistics – Basic elementary notions of statistics is required (permutation, combination, mean, variance and frequency). Basic notions to read frequency diagrams and histograms.
OFA - Recovery course
The Additional Educational Obligations (OFA) are considered fulfilled with:
- attendance of a preparation course in the disciplines of basic mathematics and logic and the passing of the relative final exam. This teaching takes place during the first semester and includes didactic activities divided into lessons and exercises according to the corresponding program. Attendance at the course is compulsory.
- compulsory attendance of the tutoring activities foreseen for the first year courses.
Before passing the test referred to in point 1), students are not allowed to take the exams required by the degree course study plan.
Students enrolled with OFA are not allowed to enroll in the second year of the Degree Course before completing the OFA assigned.
Enrollment for the achievement of a second qualification
Those who, already in possession of a university qualification which is not a requirement for access, intend to enroll in the Degree Course in Computer Science to obtain a second academic qualification must submit an application for career evaluation from 1 to 22 July 2024 by paying the contribution foreseen in the "Regulations on student contributions". The possibility of enrolling remains unchanged, even if you have not submitted the application for career evaluation by 22 July 2024, according to the methods defined in the Computer Science Teaching Regulations, and the decision on the recognition of credits will be carried out by the Computer Science Teaching Council after the matriculation.
The application must be submitted by 12:00 on the deadline day.
These students are exempt from the obligation to take the evaluative entrance test (TOLC-I).
After having paid the contribution, the student must send the application, no later than the indicated deadline, together with the receipt of the payment made, the declaration in lieu of certification relating to the exams taken in the previous career and the programs of the exams taken, in a single “.pdf” file, at careerstudenti.di@unisa.it. Students who have obtained their qualification at another University must register for the online services of the University-Esse3 Service Area (https://esse3web.unisa.it/Home.do) before requesting the debit of the contribution due.
The Careers Office of the Department of Computer Science will communicate to the student the receipt of the application or, if the documentation is not complete or correct, the failure to accept it. The Teaching Council will carry out an evaluation of the student's previous career, which will be communicated to the student, and will also assign the year of enrollment based on the number of credits/exams recognised.
The student who has the request accepted will be enrolled, by the Careers Office of the Department of Computer Science, in the Degree Course in Computer Science and will have to pay the related fees and contributions by the deadline for enrollment (15 October 2024).
