Objectives
AIMS:
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF HYDRAULICS (IDROSTATICS AND HYDRODYNAMICS), IN VIEW OF THEIR APPLICATIONS IN SOIL AND SMALL SOIL HYDROLOGY, BOTH IN PROFESSIONAL AND IN THE MASTER DEGREES OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES AND FORESTRY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES.

KNOWLEDGE OUTCOMES:
BASIC ELEMENTS OF HYDROSTATICS, HYDRODYNAMICS (PRESSURE CURRENTS) AND FREE SURFACE CURRENTS. THE STUDENT MUST KNOW, UNDERSTAND AND PROCESS THIS KNOWLEDGE IN AN AUTONOMOUS WAY.

MAIN SKILLS:
KNOWLEDGE AND APPLIED UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO USE THE BASIC CONCEPTS ALSO TO SOLVE PROBLEMS OF PRACTICAL INTEREST IN AGRICULTURE AND IN THE FOREST FIELD, WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO THE METHODOLOGICAL ELEMENTS FOR THE DESIGN AND SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF WATER SUPPLY AND IRRIGATION WORKS. AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED IN THE FIELD OF PLANNING AND TECHNICAL-ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT OF IRRIGATION AND DRAINAGE WITH A VIEW TO SUSTAINABILITY AND PROTECTION OF WATER RESOURCES.

AUTONOMY JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING
THE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO KNOW INDEPENDENTLY HOW AND IN WHAT WAY TO APPLY THE LEARNING OUTCOMES OF HYDRAULICS.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED, ORGANIZING THEM IN A LOGICAL WAY, USING AN APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE AND USING THE MATHEMATICAL AND COMPUTER TOOLS PROVIDED DURING THE COURSE.

LEARNING ABILITY
THE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO GATHER AND ORGANIZE IN A FUNCTIONAL WAY THE INFORMATION RECEIVED DURING THE COURSE IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO INTERVENE THROUGH APPROPRIATE TOOLS IN THE APPLICATION OF BASIC SKILLS ACQUIRED AND IN THE ACQUISITION AND MODIFICATION OF THEIR BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.

Prerequisites
IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND AND BE ABLE TO APPLY MOST OF THE TOPICS COVERED IN TEACHING, IT IS NECESSARY TO HAVE PASSED THE PREPARATORY EXAMS OF MATHEMATICS, STATISTICS AND PHYSICS.

FILTRATION MOTIONS. HYDRAULIC CHARACTERIZATION OF SOILS. DYNAMICS OF FILTERING WATER. TECHNICAL APPLICATIONS: WELLS AND DRAINS (1 CFU)

LABORATORY ACTIVITIES. EXERCISES IN THE HYDRAULICS LABORATORY (LIDAM) FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE HYDRODYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CURRENTS IN SIMPLE STRUCTURES (CHANNEL, PRESSURE PIPELINE CIRCUIT) (0,5 CFU)
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES 42 HOURS OF TEACHING BETWEEN LECTURES AND EXERCISES (6 CFU): 38.5 CLASSROOM HOURS (5.5 ECTS) AND 3.5 HOURS OF GUIDED EXERCISES (0.5 ECTS) ARE PLANNED.

THE COURSE IS ORGANIZED AS FOLLOWS:
CLASSROOM LECTURES ON ALL COURSE TOPICS;

LABORATORY ACTIVITIES:
TOPICS. EXERCISES IN THE HYDRAULICS LABORATORY (LIDAM) FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE HYDRODYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CURRENTS IN SIMPLE STRUCTURES (CHANNEL, PRESSURE PIPELINE CIRCUIT)
PROCEDURE. STUDENTS WILL BE DIVIDED INTO GROUPS (MAXIMUM 25 STUDENTS PER GROUP) AND 2 GUIDED TUTORIALS OF 75 MIN EACH WILL FOLLOW. AT THE END OF THE GUIDED EXERCISES THE STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO CARRY OUT INDIVIDUAL ELABORATIONS STARTING FROM THE MEASUREMENTS MADE.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE LEARNING OUTCOMES IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EXAM WITH EVALUATION IN THIRTIETHS. THE EXAM INCLUDES A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL TEST THAT TAKE PLACE ON DIFFERENT DAYS SCHEDULED. THE WRITTEN TEST IS PRELIMINARY TO THE ORAL EXAMINATION. THE ORAL EXAM INCLUDES THE PRESENTATION OF A TECHNICAL PAPER PRODUCED BY THE STUDENT INDEPENDENTLY OR IN GROUPS ON A TOPIC INDICATED BY THE TEACHER.
THE WRITTEN TEST CONSISTS OF SOLVING TWO COMPUTATIONAL PROBLEMS. THE TEST HAS A DURATION OF NO MORE THAN 120 MINUTES AND IS AIMED AT VERIFYING THE ABILITY TO CORRECTLY APPLY THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE, THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE PROPOSED PROBLEMS AND THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN A WRITTEN MANNER. DURING THE TEST IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO CONSULT TEXTS OR TO USE A PC OR SMARTPHONE; A POCKET CALCULATOR IS ALLOWED. THE TEST TAKES PLACE BEFORE THE ORAL EXAM AND IS CONSIDERED TO HAVE BEEN PASSED WITH THE ACHIEVEMENT OF A PRE-ESTABLISHED MINIMUM SCORE.
THE ORAL EXAM CONSISTS OF A DISCUSSION LASTING ABOUT 15 MINUTES AIMED AT ASCERTAINING THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE SYLLABUS. THE ORAL TEST WILL ALSO ALLOW THE STUDENT'S COMMUNICATION SKILLS TO BE VERIFIED WITH THE LANGUAGE AND AUTONOMOUS ORGANIZATION OF THE EXPOSITION.
THE ORAL EXAM INCLUDES A DISCUSSION OF THE DURATION OF ABOUT 15 MINUTES OF A TECHNICAL WORK PRODUCED BY THE STUDENT INDEPENDENTLY OR IN A GROUP ON A CASE STUDY PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER AS A LABORATORY ACTIVITY. THE DISCUSSION WILL ILLUSTRATE THE PROBLEMS POSED BY THE ASSIGNED CASE, THE POSSIBLE PROJECT ALTERNATIVES, THE POSSIBLE REGULATORY CONTEXT, THE METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH ADOPTED, THE ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED. THE DISCUSSION CAN USE SLIDES AND PROVIDE FOR THE REQUEST FOR THEORETICAL INSIGHTS AND DETAILED CLARIFICATIONS BY THE MEMBERS OF THE EXAMINATION COMMITTEE.
THE EVALUATION OF THE ORAL TEST WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON THE BASIS OF THE FOLLOWING INDICATORS: COMPLETENESS, PRESENTATION, RELEVANCE.
THE TEST AS A WHOLE MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO ASCERTAIN BOTH THE CAPACITY FOR KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING, AND THE ABILITY TO APPLY THE SKILLS ACQUIRED, BOTH THE ABILITY TO EXHIBIT, AND THE ABILITY TO LEARN AND DEVELOP SOLUTIONS IN INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT.
THE FINAL GRADE USUALLY COMES FROM THE AVERAGE OF THE TWO TESTS. THE MINIMUM GRADE FOR PASSING THE EXAM IS 18/30. THE HONORS CAN BE AWARDED TO STUDENTS WHO REACH THE MAXIMUM SCORE OF 30/30 AND DEMONSTRATE TO BE ABLE TO INDEPENDENTLY APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED EVEN IN CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PROPOSED IN CLASS.
