Objectives
THE COURSE PRESENTS FUNDAMENTAL TOPICS OF RURAL STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING. IN ADDITION THE COURSE IS AIMED TO THE ACQUISITION OF A PRACTICAL DESIGN ABILITY AND TO THE ANALYSIS OF STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS CHARACTERIZING THE RURAL BUILDINGS. AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT IS EXPECTED TO HAVE A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF BASIC DESIGN CRITERIA FOR THE VARIOUS CLASSES OF RURAL BUILDINGS, PAYING PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THEIR RESPECTIVE FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS.
THE MAIN ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGES WILL BE:
-SPATIAL DIMENSIONING
-STRUCTURE STABILITY
-MAIN ARCHITECTURAL TECHNICS CONCERNING RURAL BUILDINGS
-MAIN PROCEDURAL ASPECTS CONCERNING RURAL BUILDINGS

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THE FOLLOWING SKILLS:
-ABILITY TO ANALYZE AND DESIGN A SIMPLE STRUCTURAL SYSTEM
-ABILITY TO APPLY THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE TO DESIGN SITUATIONS WHICH ARE DIFFERENT WITH RESPECT TO THE ONES EXPLICITLY DISCUSSED IN THE COURSE
-ABILITY TO PLAN THE PHASES OF THE PROJECT, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT EVERY ENGAGED ELEMENT, IN ORDER TO PROVIDE A GENERAL PROJECT.
Prerequisites
AT THE AIM OF UNDERSTANDING AND APPLYING THE CONCEPTS PROVIDED IN THE COURSE IT IS MANDATORY TO HAVE ALREADY PASSED BOTH THE COURSE OF MATHEMATIC AND PHYSIC AND THE COURSE OF STATISTIC AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Contents
STATIC FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES AND THEIR APPLICATION TO BUILDING STRUCTURES.(8 HOURS OF THEORY (1.14 CFU) AND 8 HOURS OF EXERCISE(1.14 CFU) )
FUNICULAR ARCH.(2 HOURS(0.2857 CFU) OF THEORY AND 2(0.2857 CFU) HOURS OF EXERCISE)
ARCHITECTURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF AGRICULTURAL AND FORESTRY LANDSCAPE: TYPOLOGIES, MATERIALS AND BUILDING TECHNOLOGIES.(3 HOURS OF THEORY(0.428 CFU))
MATERIAL DEGRADATION, BUILDING RECOVERY TECHNIQUES AND REUSE FUNCTIONS.(2 HOURS OF THEORY (0.2857 CFU))
ESSENTIALS OF STATIC PRINCIPLES FOR WOODEN STRUCTURES.(7 HOURS OF THEORY (1 CFU))
ESSENTIALS OF SEISMIC BEHAVIOUR OF MASONRY STRUCTURES.(6 HOURS OF THEORY (0.857 CFU))
THE BUILDING PROJECT: METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH AND FUNDAMENTALS.(2 HOURS OF THEORY(0.2857 CFU))
OPERATIVE MUNICIPAL TOWN-PLANNING. LOCAL GENERAL PLAN AND BUILDING REGULATIONS.(3 HOURS OF THEORY(0.428 CFU))
TESTS LABORATORY CONCERNING THE TYPICAL MATERIALS USED IN BUILDINGS. (2.6 HOURS OF LABORATORY(0.22CFU))
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE IS BASED ON THEORETICAL LECTURES (4.28 CFU FOR 30 HOURS), PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS (1.5 CFU FOR 10.5 HOURS) AND LABORATORY ACTIVITIES (0.22 CFU FOR 2.6 HOURS). THEORETICAL LECTURES OR EX CATHEDRA WILL BE HELD BY MEANS OF BLACKBOARD, PROJECTOR AND PRESENTATIONS *.PPT. WORKED EXAMPLES ARE PRESENTED TO APPLY THE THEORIES TO CASES OF PRACTICAL RELEVANCE. SOME PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS WILL BE HELD IN THE STRENGTH LABORATORY WHERE EXPERIMENTAL TESTS WILL BE EXECUTED IN ORDER TO CHARACTERIZE THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE MATERIALS PRESENTED IN THE COURSE.
Verification of learning

THE FINAL ASSESSMENT OF THE COURSE IS DONE VIA AN ORAL EXAM. THE EXAM LASTS ONE HOUR AND IS HELD AT THE END OF THE COURSE. TO PASS THE EXAM, THE STUDENT SHOULD DEMONSTRATE TO HAVE UNDERSTOOD AND TO BE ABLE OF APPLYING THE MAIN TOPICS WHICH ARE PART OF THE PROGRAM.
IN THE EXAM THE STUDENT WILL SOLVE SIMPLE EXERCISES REGARDING THE MAIN TOPICS SHOWED IN THE COURSE.
THE FINAL MARK, WHICH IS EXPRESSED IN 30TH, DEPENDS UPON THE LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT AND THE CLARITY OF HIS ANSWERS DURING THE EXAM. FOR THE PURPOSES OF PRAISE, THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT:
THE QUALITY OF THE EXPOSURE IN TERMS OF THE USE OF AN APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE;
THE ABILITY TO CORRELATE DIFFERENT TOPICS OF THE COURSE, WHERE POSSIBLE, WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES;
THE CAPACITY OF JUDGMENT AUTONOMY ACHIEVED.
