Verification of learning
EXAMINATIONS CONSIST IN A COMPUTER BASED TEST. THE TEST CONSISTS OF MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS, WHICH ALSO INVOLVE READING COMPREHENSION OF SHORT PASSAGES PROVIDED BY THE INSTRUCTOR, AND AN EXERCISE IN R LANGUAGE. THE MAXIMUM ATTAINABLE SCORE FROM MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS IS 28, THE MAXIMUM ATTAINABLE SCORE FROM THE R EXERCISE IS 2. THE FINAL GRADE IS GIVEN BY THE SUM OF THE TEST SCORE AND THE ASSESSMENT OF CLASS PROJECTS. IF THE SUM IS A NUMBER GREATER THAN 30, THE FINAL GRADE IS 30 CUM LAUDE. CLASS PROJECTS ARE ENTIRELY OPTIONAL. THEIR ASSESSMENT IS NOT SUBJECT TO SPECIFIC BOUNDARIES, BUT IT IS EXPECTED TO BE IN THE INTERVAL [0, 3]. IF SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED, CLASS PROJECTS GIVE ALSO THE RIGHT TO BE EXONERATED FROM THE R EXERCISE DURING THE EXAM TEST. FOR SPECIAL CATEGORIES OF STUDENTS, SUCH AS THOSE WHO COMBINE STUDY WITH WORK, IT IS POSSIBLE TO SUBSTITUTE THE CLASS PROJECTS WITH A SINGLE LARGE PROJECT AT HOME. IF THE NUMBER OF TESTS TO PROCESS ALLOWS, TEST OUTCOMES ARE GIVEN AND DISCUSSED WITH THE INSTRUCTOR THE SAME DAY. THE SCORE-TO-GRADE MAPPING MIGHT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE OVERALL SCORE QUANTILES. THE MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE 15, WITH A SCORE WEIGHT EQUAL TO: 2, FOR A CORRECT ANSWER; -1, FOR A WRONG ANSWER; ZERO, IF WITHOUT ANSWER. EXAMPLE. ASSUME A STUDENT ANSWERS CORRECTLY TO 13 QUESTIONS AND WRONGLY TO 1 QUESTION AND THEIR CLASS PROJECT ASSESSMENT IS 2. THE STUDENT IS GIVEN THE GRADE 2 X 13 -1 + 2 = 27. QUESTION WEIGHTS MIGHT SLIGHTLY VARY DEPENDING ON THE THEIR DIFFICULTY. AN EXAM SIMULATION IS HELD DURING THE COURSE TO LEARN THE SOFTWARE USED TO RUN THE TEST AND TO FAMILIARISE WITH EXAM PROCEDURES. IF MISSING THE TEST ONBOARDING, STUDENTS WILL BE UNABLE TO CARRY ON THE ACTUAL EXAM. IN SUCH CASES, THEY ARE REQUIRED TO CONTACT THE INSTRUCTOR TO IDENTIFY AN ALTERNATIVE DATE.
