The Department of Pharmacy is pleased to announce the launch of the new Second-Level Master's Program in AI in Drug Discovery—an interdisciplinary and cutting-edge course designed to integrate artificial intelligence with pharmaceutical sciences, training highly specialized professionals in the field of drug design and development.

The program is open to candidates holding a Master’s Degree (pursuant to Italian Ministerial Decree 270/04) or an equivalent qualification in the following fields:

  • LM-13 Pharmacy and Industrial Pharmacy
  • LM-6 Biology
  • LM-54 Chemical Sciences
  • LM-18 Computer Science
  • LM-17 Physics
  • LM-44 Mathematical-Physical Modelling for Engineering

Candidates with degrees in other scientific disciplines may also be considered, subject to evaluation by the Scientific Committee.

Program Objectives

The program aims to equip participants with advanced knowledge and practical skills in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to the drug discovery process. The curriculum offers a multidisciplinary education that combines pharmaceutical chemistry, computational chemistry, pharmacology, and statistics with state-of-the-art machine learning techniques for the identification and optimization of bioactive compounds.

Participants will learn to:

  • Apply machine learning, deep learning, and predictive modeling algorithms to drug design;
  • Manage data generated across all stages of the drug discovery pipeline;
  • Integrate AI technologies with traditional experimental and analytical methods;
  • Collaborate with companies and startups on real-world, applied projects.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the program will be prepared for professional roles in:

  • Pharmaceutical and biotech companies
  • Startups and spin-offs specializing in AI-driven drug discovery
  • Public and private research institutions
  • Scientific and technical consulting in the drug development sector
  • Laboratories involved in molecular optimization and predictive modeling

The program is also ideal for professionals already working in the pharmaceutical or biotech sectors who seek to update or expand their expertise in emerging technologies, enabling career progression and requalification.
