THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE A CRITICALLY ASSESSED KNOWLEDGE OF RECENT MODELS, TRENDS AND METHODOLOGIES OF TEACHING THE LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE, IN ORDER TO INTERPRET AND TEACH THE LATIN LITERARY TEXTS. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT: - WILL KNOW THE DISCIPLINARY FOUNDATIONS OF THE TEACHING OF THE LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE; - WILL UNDERSTAND THE MAIN AND MOST UP-TO-DATE METHODOLOGIES FOR TEACHING THE LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - MASTER THE SPECIALIZED RESEARCH TOOLS (PAPER AND DIGITAL) ABOUT THE LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE; - USE THE AFOREMENTIONED TOOLS IN THE STUDY AND TEACHING OF THE LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE; - SET UP EDUCATIONAL PATHS RELATING TO THE LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE. AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - EVALUATE A TEACHING METHOD; - DISCERN THE CONSTITUTIVE ELEMENTS OF A DIDACTIC PATH; - SELECT THE MAIN SUBJECTS AND ASPECTS OF AN EDUCATIONAL PATH. COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - ADEQUATELY ILLUSTRATE AN EDUCATIONAL PATH; - REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE, THROUGH TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, THE RESULTS OF HIS RESEARCH AND ORIGINAL DIDACTIC PATHS; - TALK ABOUT TOPICS RELATED TO THE TEACHING OF THE LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE, MAKING USE OF ADEQUATE CRITICAL TERMINOLOGY. LEARNING SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND IT RESOURCES; - CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX LITERARY TEXTS. - PROCEED WITH THE CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF HIS KNOWLEDGE, USING THE TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE. |

PROGRAM OF THE COURSE: 1) ILLUSTRATION OF THE MAIN AND MORE UPDATED TEACHING METHODOLOGIES OF THE LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE; 2) CATULLUS, CARMINA, 64; 3) LUCAN, BELLUM CIVILE, BOOK I, LL. 1-465. THESE TWO LATIN TEXTS WILL BE READ, TRANSLATED AND INTERPRETED. A SPECIAL ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO THE EDUCATIONAL RETURN OF THESE TEXTS. |

LECTURE; DIALOGUED LESSON. THE TEACHER WILL LEAD THE STUDENTS INTO THE USE OF MODERN DIGITAL RESOURCES CONCERNING THE STUDY AND TEACHING OF THE LATIN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE, AND INTO THE INTERPRETATION AND TEACHING OF THE LATIN TEXTS READ DURING THE COURSE. THE LATIN LITERARY TEXTS INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM WILL BE READ, TRANSLATED AND COMMENTED ON BY THE TEACHER. DURING THE LECTURE THE TEACHER WILL CONSTANTLY TAKE CARE TO STIMULATE THE STUDENTS' REFLECTION ON ALL ASPECTS (CONTENT AND FORMAL ASPECTS) OF THE TEXTS READ AND ON THE PROBLEMS THEY POSE. |
Verification of learning | |

ORAL EXAMINATION, AIMED AT VERIFYING THE ABILITY TO INTERPRET AND CRITICALLY USE TEACHING METHODS AND PATTERNS, TO IDENTIFY AND PLACE THE INDIVIDUAL TEXTS THAT MUST BE ANALYZED IN THE APPROPRIATE CONTEXT, STATING THEIR CONTENT AND INFORMATIONAL INTENTIONALITY. IT WILL ALSO FOCUS ON THE DIRECT READING OF THE TEXTS, WHOSE CONTENT THE STUDENT WILL HAVE TO KNOW. THE STUDENT WILL HAVE TO PROVIDE A TRANSLATION AND A LINGUISTIC AND RHETORICAL COMMENTARY OF THE LATIN TEXTS, EXPLAINING THE AUTHOR'S INTENTIONS. THE EXAM WILL ALSO VERIFY THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO SET UP A LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY EDUCATIONAL PATH BASED ON THE LATIN TEXTS BEING EXAMINED. THE MARK IS EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS, AND, IF SUCCESSFUL, RANGES FROM 18, WHICH IS THE MINIMUM MARK FOR PASSING THE EXAM, UP TO 30 AND HONOURS, DEPENDING ON THE STUDENT'S LEVEL OF PREPARATION. |
