Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS RELATING TO THE DESIGN AND
IMPLEMENTATION OF DIGITAL RESOURCES IN THE TYPOGRAPHIC-EDITORIAL FIELD, STARTING FROM A
REFLECTION ON TEXTUAL MODELS DIFFERENT FROM THE TRADITIONAL STRUCTURE OF THE BOOK-FORM.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT:
– WILL UNDERSTAND THE MAIN IMPLICATIONS OF THE ADVENT OF DIGITAL PROCESSES ON THE
HABITS OF THE PUBLISHING CHAIN, NOT ONLY IN TERMS OF PRODUCTION AND DISSEMINATION OF
CONTENTS, BUT ALSO OF THEIR USE
– WILL KNOW, IN REFERENCE TO SO-CALLED DESKTOP PUBLISHING, THE METHODS OF
REPRESENTING AND CODING INFORMATION, IN PARTICULAR THE USE OF MARKUP LANGUAGES IN
RELATION TO THE MATCHING OF STRUCTURAL, SEMANTIC AND DESCRIPTIVE METADATA TO A
DIGITAL DOCUMENT.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
– DESIGN AN ELECTRONIC BOOK ACCORDING TO CERTAIN TYPOGRAPHICAL AND STRUCTURAL CRITERIA
– USE SOME OF THE MOST COMMON SOFTWARE IN USE FOR THE CREATION OF PRE-PRESS
PRODUCTS AND FLUID LAYOUTS
– MANAGE DIGITAL IMAGES ACCORDING TO THE FORMATS IN USE
– ATTRIBUTE DESCRIPTIVE AND STRUCTURAL METADATA USEFUL TO THE DISSEMINATION OF
EDITORIAL PRODUCTS
– EVALUATE THE APPROPRIATE SETTING OF AN ELECTRONIC BOOK, ACCORDING TO THE READING
SITUATION AND THE DEVICES IN USE

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
– CONSIDER THE CHALLENGES OPENED UP BY DIGITAL PUBLISHING IN TERMS OF RESEARCH
AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

– DESCRIBE WITH PROPERTIES OF LANGUAGE, IN WRITTEN AND ORAL FORM, THE MAIN PRACTICAL
AND THEORETICAL ISSUES ADDRESSED DURING THE COURSE

LEARNING ABILITY
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
– APPLY THE TOOLS ACQUIRED DURING THE COURSE TO THE EDITING AND ANNOTATION OF A
WRITTEN TEXT AND TO BIBLIOGRAPHIC CONSULTATION

BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF MARKUP LANGUAGES (IN PARTICULAR XML AND SCHEMES, XHTML, HTML5, CSS)

THE COURSE CONSIDERS NEW FORMS OF TEXTUALITY AS ALTERNATIVES TO THE TRADITIONAL SHAPE OF THE BOOL-FORM. STARTING FROM THIS INTRODUCTION AND ITS IMPLICATIONS - TO BE INTENDED AS A NECESSARY THEORETICAL COMPLEMENT OF THE COURSE - IT IS ALSO INTENDED TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH AN INTRODUCTION TO THE USE OF DESIGN AND REALIZATION TOOLS OF A DIGITAL OBJECT
