THE COURSE AIMS TO REINFORCE THE STUDENTS' BASIC COMPETENCES IN ENGLISH AND PROVIDE AN INTRODUCTION TO THE STRUCTURES AND USES OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE THROUGH THE ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF SPECILISED TEXTS. |

THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO THREE PARTS. THE FIRST PART WILL FOCUS ON GRAMMAR REVISION. THE SECOND PART WILL PROVIDE AN INTRODUCTION TO THE MAIN PHONOLOGICAL, MORPHOLOGICAL, SYNTACTIC AND SEMANTIC ASPECTS OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN THE ESSENTIAL DESCRIPTIVE AND METALINGUISTIC TOOLS USEFUL TO IDENTIFY AND ANALYZE THE MAIN STRUCTURES OF ENGLISH OCCURRING IN DIFFERENT TEXT TYPES. THE THIRD, MORE PRACTICAL PART, CONSISTS OF THE LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT CONTEMPORARY AUTHENTIC TEXT TYPES. THE COURSE REQUIRES A B1 ENTRY LEVEL (COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE) TO ACHIEVE THE EXPECTED B2 LEVEL. THE INTERACTIVE NATURE OF THE COURSE CALLS FOR AN ACTIVE PARTICIPATION DURING LESSONS IN THE CLASSROOM, WHICH WILL BE ENRICHED BY PRACTICE EXERCISES BASED ON AUTHENTIC AUDIO/VIDEO MATERIALS. |
