APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
-APPLICATION OF GRAMMATICAL KNOWLEDGE TO BASIC LANGUAGE SKILLS (READING, WRITING, LISTENING AND SPEAKING)
- ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THE PURPOSES AND FUNCTIONS OF SOME TYPES OF TEXT (ESSAY, NOVEL, REVIEW).
-KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Prerequisites
KNOWLEDGE OF GENERAL ENGLISH (3 CREDITS-LABORATORIO DI LINGUA INGLESE)
-KNOWLEDGE OF FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGLISH PHONOLOGY, MORPHOLOGY AND SYNTAX (B1 LEVEL OF THE CEFR CORRESPONDING TO THE FOLLOWING DESCRIPTION: [THE SPEAKER] "CAN UNDERSTAND THE MAIN POINTS OF CLEAR STANDARD INPUT ON FAMILIAR MATTERS REGULARLY ENCOUNTERED IN WORK, SCHOOL/UNIVERSITY, LEISURE, ETC. CAN DEAL WITH MOST SITUATIONS LIKELY TO ARISE WHILST TRAVELLING IN AN AREA WHERE THE LANGUAGE IS SPOKEN. CAN PRODUCE SIMPLE CONNECTED TEXT ON TOPICS WHICH ARE FAMILIAR OR OF PERSONAL INTEREST. -STRUTTURA -INFORMATIVA DEI TESTI; SINTAGMI NOMINALI SEMPLICI E COMPLESSI.
-ESPRIMERE COLLEGAMENTI LOGICI: PAROLE DI COLLEGAMENTO; FRASI SEMPLICI E COMPOSTE.
MODULO II: PRONUNCIA E INTONAZIONE
-SUONI CONSONANTICI E VOCALICI; DITTONGHI.
-STRUTTURE INTONATIVE DELLE PAROLE (MONO-, BI-, PLURISILLABICHE).
-ACCENTO DI FRASE E INTONAZIONE.
-I SUONI NELLA CATENA PARLATA E GRUPPI CONSONANTICI.
MODULO III: COMPRENSIONE SCRITTA E ORALE
- ANALISI LINGUISTICA E CULTURALE DI DIVERSE TIPOLOGIE TESTUALI DI ARGOMENTO SPECIALISTICO.
-ATTIVITÀ DI ASCOLTO E COMPRENSIONE BASATE SU MATERIALI AUDIO / VIDEO AUTENTICI.

Verification of learning
THE LEARNING OUTCOMES WILL BE TESTED THROUGH THREE WRITTEN PROGRESS TESTS ON: 1. SYNTAX AND PHONOLOGY OF ENGLISH (ASSESSED THROUGH MULTIPLE CHOICE EXERCISES); 2. READING COMPREHENSION AND ANALYSIS OF A LITERARY OR ARGUMENTATIVE TEXT (ASSESSED THROUGH WH-QUESTIONS). THE ORAL TEST INCLUDES: 1. LISTENING COMPREHENSION OF A MONOLOGUE (ASSESSED THROUGH A MULTIPLE CHOICE EXERCISE), 2. LISTENING COMPREHENSION OF A DIALOGUE (ASSESSED THROUGH A FILLING-THE-GAPS EXERCISE), 3. ORAL PRESENTATION (INDIVIDUALLY OR IN GROUPS) ON ONE OR MORE TOPICS DISCUSSED DURING THE COURSE. IT IS NECESSARY TO PASS THE WRITTEN TESTS IN ORDER TO TAKE THE ORAL TEST AND COMPLETE THE EXAM. PROGRESS TESTS UNDER THE PASSING GRADE OF 18 CAN BE RECOVERED ALONG WITH THE FOLLOWING PROGRESS TEST. LEARNING OBJECTIVES ARE ATTESTED THROUGH A STANDARDISED SCORE OUT OF 30. THE SCORE A STUDENT NEEDS TO ACHIEVE A PASSING GRADE WILL ALWAYS BE 18.
