Objectives
I. THROUGH THE HISTORICAL AND CRITICAL SURVEY OF PARTICULARLY SIGNIFICANT EVENTS IN THE HISTORY OF ART IN ITALY, IT AIMS TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE AND METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS FOR THE STUDY OF PAINTINGS, SCULPTURES AND ARCHITECTURE, DRAWINGS, ETCHINGS AND OTHER ARTEFACTS WHICH WERE PRODUCED IN MODERN AGE IN ITALY AND IN EUROPE. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE A MORE ACCURATE HISTORICAL RECONSTRUCTION AND IN-DEPTH CRITICAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORKS, STYLISTIC ANALYSIS WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY ICONOGRAPHIC INVESTIGATION AND THE ANALYSIS OF DOCUMENTS AND OTHER WRITTEN SOURCES, AS NEEDED START POINTS OF THE ART HISTORY RECONSTRUCTION.
II. THE STUDENT IS CAPABLE TO PROPOSE AN ACCEPTABLE READING OF PARTICULARLY SIGNIFICANT ARTWORKS THROUGH A HISTORICAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION AND TO RECOGNIZE THE SPECIFIC LANGUAGE OF THE MAIN ARTISTS ACTIVE IN ITALY AND EUROPE BETWEEN FIFTEENTH AND SIXTEENTH CENTURY. HE IS CAPABLE TO IDENTIFY CULTURALLY HOMOGENEOUS ARTISTIC CONTEXTS AND TO RELATE THAT ARTISTIC PRODUCTION TO LARGER HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL SETTINGS.
Prerequisites
GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF WRITTEN AND ORAL ITALIAN LANGUAGE; BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF EUROPEAN HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY.

FIRST PART: HISTORY OF ART IN ITALY AND EUROPE FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE FIFTEENTH CENTURY TO THE END OF THE SIXTEENTH CENTURY
SECOND PART (ONLY FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE A 12 CREDIT TEACHING): PROTAGONISTS OF THE "MANIERA" IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE SIXTEENTH CENTURY
