THE COURSE AIMS AT ACQUIRING A PROPER METHOD OF STUDY OF ROMAN HISTORY, THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE DISCIPLINE, AND THE ABILITY TO APPLY SUCH KNOWLEDGE. IN PARTICULAR: 1- (KNOWLEDGE): THE STUDENT WILL RECALL THE MAIN EVENTS OF ROMAN HISTORY AND THE GEOGRAPHICAL, ARTISTIC, AND CULTURAL CONTEXT; UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OF ROMAN CIVILIZATION (HISTORY, ART, CULTURE) IN THE GENERAL CONTEXT OF WESTERN HISTORY; AND WILL BE ABLE TO ORIENT THEM IN ANCIENT HISTORY THROUGH SOURCES IN THE STUDY OF CERTAIN FACTS AND PROBLEMS, FRAMING THEM IN TIME AND SPACE. 2- (SKILLS): THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO READ A MANUAL AND TO NAVIGATE IN ROMAN HISTORY BETWEEN PERIODS, CHARACTERS, PLACES, EVENTS, ARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS, CULTURES AND ISSUES; THE ABILITY TO USE THE TOOLS OF DISCIPLINE AND TO MAKE CONNECTIONS WITH RELATED DISCIPLINES; THE ABILITY TO HIGHLIGHT A HISTORICAL FACT IN ITS SPACE-TIME CONTEXT AND IN THE REFERENCE CULTURE; THE ABILITY TO MAKE APPROPRIATE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE PHENOMENA USING AVAILABLE SOURCES; AND THE ABILITY TO EXPOUND UPON WHAT THEY LEARNED IN A FACTUALLY CORRECT AND COHERENT WAY. |

THE COURSE INCLUDES 60 HOURS OF TEACHING (12 CFU) WITH LECTURES USING AUDIOVISUAL AIDS, WITH TEACHING MATERIALS (GREEK AND LATIN TEXTS, EPIGRAPHIC TEXTS, HISTORICAL AND GEOGRAPHIC MAPS, ILLUSTRATIONS, PHOTOGRAPHS OF OBJECTS AND WORKS OF ANCIENT ART) THAT WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE IN PDF FILES ON THE TEACHER'S INSTITUTIONAL WEB PAGE. REGULAR ATTENDANCE IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. DURING THE EXAM, THE STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO BRING ALONG THE STUDY TEXTS AND THE TEACHING MATERIALS USED. |

THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EVALUATION EXAM. THE EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL EXAMINATION THAT WILL TAKE PLACE ON ONE OR MORE DAYS ACCORDING TO THE NUMBER OF BOOKINGS AND FOLLOWING THE BOOKING ORDER. AFTER THE CLOSING OF THE BOOKINGS, STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO SEE ON THE TEACHER'S WEB PAGE THE EVENT CALENDAR FOR THE SEVERAL DAYS OF THE EXAM SESSION, WHICH WILL ALSO BE COMMUNICATED BY E-MAIL. THE ORAL EXAM, IN THE FORM OF DISCUSSION, IS INTENDED TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF LEARNING OF THE DISCIPLINE AND THE ABILITY TO ELABORATE CRITICAL ISSUES. IT CONSISTS OF AN INTERVIEW WITH QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE TEACHING PROGRAM (PERIODS, CHARACTERS, PLACES, EVENTS, SOURCES AND ISSUES) AND IS AIMED AT ASSESSING THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT, AS WELL AS VERIFYING THE CAPACITY FOR REORGANIZATION AND SYNTHESIS OF THE TOPICS. AT THE TIME OF THE EXAM, THE STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO BRING ALONG THE STUDY TEXTS AND TEACHING MATERIALS. IN PARTICULAR, THE CRITERIA FOR ASSESSING THE ORAL EXAM WILL BE: 1. ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE CHARACTERS AND EVENTS OF ROMAN HISTORY AND TO INCORPORATE THEM INTO A PRECISE, LOGICAL, CHRONOLOGICAL, CULTURAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL FRAMEWORK, INCLUDING USING A HISTORICAL ATLAS. 2. ABILITY TO EXPRESS WITH CLARITY AND APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE COMPETENCY IN ROMAN HISTORY, USING SPECIFIC TERMS TYPICAL OF THE DISCIPLINE. 3. ABILITY TO COMMENT ON THE SOURCES, CORRECTLY HIGHLIGHTING THE SIGNIFICANT ONES, AND ILLUSTRATING ANY CONNECTIONS WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES. THE MINIMUM GRADE FOR PASSING THE EXAM IS 18/30. HONORS MAY BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS WHO REACH THE MAXIMUM RATING OF 30/30 AND DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO APPLY THEIR OWN KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED IN LESSONS. |
