Objectives
GENERAL LEARNING OUTCOMES:
THE COURSE WILL PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE SKILLS NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND THE BIOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS SUBSERVING THE HUMAN BEHAVIOR, THE MENTAL FUNCTIONS AND THE EMOTIONAL-AFFECTIVE AND MOTIVATIONAL STATES.
KNOWING AND UNDERSTANDING:
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY. THE WILL ALSO BE INTRODUCED TO THE STUDY OF THE BASIS COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS, SUCH AS MEMORY, LEARNING, REASONING, AND THEIR RELATIONS WITH EMOTIONS.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
THE MAIN GOAL IS DEVELOPING CRITICAL THINKING WHICH CAN ALLOW STUDENTS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THEORETICAL PARADIGMS, METHODOLOGIES AND ADVANCES OF CURRENT RESEARCH ON COGNITIVE PROCESSES. STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THAT KNOWLEDGE TO DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS OF SOCIETY AND HUMAN BEHAVIOUR IN GENERAL.
MAKING JUDGMENTS:
STUDENTS WILL LEARN BASIC INTELLECTUAL TOOLS TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN CRITICAL VIEW ON THE DIFFERENT THEORIES, EMPHASIZING BOTH THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESS OF SUCH THEORIES.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE AT DIFFERENT LEVELS (BOTH TO AN AUDIENCE OF EXPERTS AND TO ONE OF NON-SPECIALISTS), WITH SPECIFIC LANGUAGE PROPERTIES AND LEXICAL SKILLS, AND USING THE MOST APPROPRIATE KIND OF LANGUAGE FOR EACH CIRCUMSTANCE.

LEARNING SKILLS:
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS AND USE BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS, TO IDENTIFY AND SELECT THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE USEFUL FOR INCREASING THEIR KNOWLEDGE

INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION ON THE HISTORY OF PSYCHOLOGY WILL BE PROVIDED TOGETHER WITH BASIC INTRODUCTION TO THE MAIN EPISTEMOLOGICAL APPROACHES OF THE DISCIPLINE THEORETICAL CONSTRUCTS AND RESEARCH PARADIGMS. A GREAT DEAL OF ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO THE PROCESSES OF KNOWLEDGE FORMATION. THE COURSE WILL THEN ADDRESS ISSUES REGARDING MEMORY, EMOTION AND LEARNING. MOREOVER, TOPICS REFERRING TO THE COMMUNICATION SKILLS WILL BE ADDRESSED.

Teaching Methods
LECTURES WILL BE GIVEN WITH THE AID OF SLIDES AND VIDEOS.
Verification of learning
LEARNING WILL BE ASSESSED THROUGH A TEST CONSISTING OF MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS. THE QUESTIONS, ALTHOUGH IN CLOSE FORMAT, DO NOT ASK TO SIMPLY MEMORIZE THE KEY CONCEPTS, BUT TO DEEPLY UNDERSTAND THE CONTENTS OF SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY AND THE ABILITY TO MAKE CONNECTIONS AMONG THEM.
STUDENTS WHO REGULARLY ATTEND CLASSES WILL BE ENTITLED TO ACCESS INTERMEDIATE EVALUATIONS DURING THE COURSE.
