Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
THE COURSE HAS THE OBJECTIVE OF LEADING THE STUDENT TO THE IDENTIFICATION OF THE FUNDAMENTAL CHARACTERS OF PHILOSOPHICAL SPECULATION AND ITS METHODOLOGIES, GUIDING THEM TO UNDERSTANDING, ALSO THROUGH THE READING OF THE CLASSICS, OF THE SPECIFICITIES OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHT OF EXPERIENCE.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL HAVE A WAY TO KNOW:
THE FUNDAMENTAL THEMES AND PROBLEMS OF PHILOSOPHICAL THEORESIS;
THE METHODOLOGIES AND BASIC INSTRUMENTS OF PHILOSOPHICAL SPECULATION;
THE KEY TERMS AND CONCEPTS OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL TRADITION;
THE DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF PHILOSOPHICAL REFLECTION AND THE PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE DEFINITION OF ITS DISCIPLINARY STATUTE, ALSO IN RELATION TO OTHER FORMS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE.



ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
USE CORRECTLY AND CONSCIOUSLY THE KEY TERMS AND CONCEPTS OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL TRADITION;
RECOGNIZE THE SPECIFIC FORMS AND METHODOLOGIES OF PHILOSOPHICAL SPECULATION;
INTERPRET THE CLASSICAL TEXTS BY IDENTIFYING AND ANALYZING THE THEMES AND PHILOSOPHICAL PROBLEMS CONTAINED IN THEM;
APPLY THE MAIN ARGUMENTATIVE STRUCTURES OF PHILOSOPHICAL THINKING;
ASSESS THE CORRECTNESS AND CONSISTENCY OF THE ARGUMENTS OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL SPEECH.

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
FORMULATE AUTONOMOUS JUDGMENTS WITH THE APPLICATION OF ADEQUATE AND CORRECT ARGUMENTATIVE STRUCTURES;
COMPETENTLY EVALUATE THE SUBJECTS PRESENTED;
RELATE AND IN DIALOGUE OUR SKILLS WITH OTHER FORMS OF EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
COMMUNICATE THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED BOTH IN SPECIALIST CONTEXTS AND IN NON-SPECIALIST CONTEXTS;
DEMONSTRATING SKILLS IN READING AND EXPOSING TEXTS;
RECOGNIZE AND USE THE MOST APPROPRIATE ARGUMENTATION AND COMMUNICATION TOOLS FOR THE CONTEXT.

LEARNING ABILITY
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
CONTINUE STUDIES BY OWNING A BAGGAGE OF HAVING AN ADEQUATE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS;
APPLY BASIC EXPRESSIVE AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS IN THE FIELD OF PUBLIC COMMUNICATION;
RECOGNIZE AND IDENTIFY THE PECULIARITIES OF SPECIALIST TEXTS.

Contents
THROUGH THE READING AND ANALYSIS OF SOME CLASSICAL TEXTS OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL TRADITION THAT FOCUS ON THE FIGURE AND DUTIES OF THE PHILOSOPHER AND ON THE NATURE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHT, IN PARTICULAR THE THEORETICAL ONE, THE COURSE AIMS TO PROMOTE THE STUDENT’S ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THE BASICS OF PHILOSOPHICAL SPECULATION AND ITS METHOD, TRYING TO UNDERSTAND ITS SPECIFICITY COMPARED TO OTHER FORMS OF KNOWLEDGE AND SUBJECTS. THROUGH THIS EXAMINATION, SOME OF THE FUNDAMENTAL TERMS AND CONCEPTS OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL TRADITION WILL BE ILLUSTRATED IN ORDER TO PROVIDE BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING AND, THUS, TO INTRODUCE THE LEARNER TO THE STUDY OF PHILOSOPHY.
DURING THE LESSONS TEXTS BY PLATO, ARISTOTLE, DESCARTES, KANT AND NIETZSCHE WILL BE READ.



Teaching Methods
LECTURES, SUPPORTED BY THE ANALYTIC-INTERPRETATIVE READING OF SELECTED PASSAGES FROM CLASSICAL TEXTS, WHICH APPEAR TO BE PARTICULARLY RELEVANT IN CONNECTION WITH THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL TEST, AIMING TO VERIFY THE STUDENT’S KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING IN THE FIELD OF STUDIES, AS WELL AS HIS/HER ABILITY TO USE FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE AND METHODOLOGIES PECULIAR TO PHILOSOPHICAL THEORETICS. DURING THE CONVERSATION, THE ABILITY TO CLEARLY COMMUNICATE THE LEARNED CONTENTS, ALONG WITH THE ARGUMENTATIVE AND HERMENEUTIC SKILLS ACQUIRED DURING THE COURSE, WILL ALSO BE EVALUATED.
