Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS THE ACQUISITION OF BASIC KNOWLEDGE RELATING TO THE MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY HISTORICAL-PHILOSOPHICAL FIELD AND THE PREPARATION OF THE STUDY PATH BY STRENGTHENING AND COMPLETING THE INITIAL KNOWLEDGE.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- KNOW IN DEPTH AND UNDERSTAND, AT POST-SECONDARY LEVEL, THE MAIN SPECULATIVE ORIENTATIONS, THEMES AND FIGURES OF THINKERS THAT HAVE CHARACTERIZED THE HISTORY OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY WESTERN THOUGHT;
- KNOW IN DEPTH AND UNDERSTAND THE ROOTS AND HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY THOUGHT;
- KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE MOST IMPORTANT INTERPRETATIVE AND HISTORIOGRAPHICAL PERSPECTIVES CONCERNING MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY PHILOSOPHY;
- KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE VARIOUS PHASES OF HISTORICAL PERIODIZATION;
- KNOW THE METHODOLOGICAL APPROACH OF HISTORICAL-PHILOSOPHICAL INVESTIGATION.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THROUGH THE STUDY OF THE DISCIPLINE, THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING IN ORDER TO PLACE THEMES AND FIGURES OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY THOUGHT WITHIN THE CORRECT DISCIPLINARY AND CHRONOLOGICAL PERIMETER;
- APPLY THE APPROPRIATE RESEARCH METHODS
- USE THE CATEGORIES AND THE SPECIFIC VOCABULARY OF THE DISCIPLINE.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- AUTONOMOUSLY INTERPRET AND RE-ELABORATE THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN VIEW OF THE MATURATION OF A CRITICAL SPIRIT;
- KNOW HOW TO IDENTIFY PROBLEMS AND SELECT FROM THE KNOWLEDGE LEARNED;
- ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO CRITICALLY UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF THE HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF THOUGHT,
- CRITICALLY UNDERSTAND THE PLURALITY OF DIFFERENT CULTURAL TRADITIONS.
- UNDERSTAND THE EPISTEMOLOGICAL ROOTS OF MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY PHILOSOPHY.


COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL KNOW HOW TO:
- USE REASONING AND PHILOSOPHICAL LEXICON IN AN APPROPRIATE AND FUNCTIONAL WAY ALSO IN AN INTERDISCIPLINARY CONTEXT
- DEMONSTRATE A SET OF BASIC SKILLS AND ABILITIES SUITABLE FOR BOTH THE CONTINUATION OF STUDIES AND PROFESSIONAL INTEGRATION;
- COMMUNICATE THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED THROUGH BOTH VERBAL AND WRITTEN MEANS OF COMMUNICATION;
- ORGANIZE AND SYSTEMATIZE THE RESULTS ACHIEVED;
- DIALOGUE WITH AND RECOGNIZE THE REASONS OF THE OTHER
- PARTICIPATE IN GROUP WORK.

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- KNOW HOW TO USE A HISTORICAL-CONCEPTUAL "TOOLBOX";
- EXERCISE PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS THROUGH REASONING APPROPRIATE TO THE CONTEXT AND THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF CRITICAL JUDGMENT;
- CONFRONT AND SHARE EFFECTIVELY, WITH CORRECT ARGUMENTATION AND EXPOSITION, THE RESULTS ACCRUED;
- CARRY OUT THEMATIC IN-DEPTH STUDIES.

AT THE END OF THE COURSE OF LECTURES,THE EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL EXAMINATION WHICH AIMS TO ASCERTAIN STUDENT'S PREPARATION AND HER/HIS CAPABILITY TO USE THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY. PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO STUDENT'S EXPOSITION SKILLS AND TO HER/HIS CAPABILITY TO ANSWER IN A CLEAR WAY IN ORDER TO SHOW HER/HIS ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN TERMS OF CONTENT AND METHOD
