Objectives
LEVEL B1 (INTERMEDIATE) OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES:
•UNDERSTAND THE MAIN POINTS OF CLEAR STANDARD INPUT ON FAMILIAR MATTERS REGULARLY ENCOUNTERED IN WORK, SCHOOL, LEISURE, ETC;
•DEAL WITH MOST SITUATIONS LIKELY TO ARISE WHILE TRAVELLING IN AN AREA WHERE THE LANGUAGE IS SPOKEN;
•PRODUCE SIMPLE CONNECTED TEXT ON TOPICS THAT ARE FAMILIAR OR OF PERSONAL INTEREST;
•DESCRIBE EXPERIENCES AND EVENTS, DREAMS, HOPES AND AMBITIONS AND BRIEFLY GIVE REASONS AND EXPLANATIONS FOR OPINIONS AND PLANS.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE (30H)
THE COURSE IS DESIGNED TO HELP STUDENTS UPGRADE THEIR PREVIOUS ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPETENCE TO LEVEL B1 (INTERMEDIATE) OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES

ENGLISH FOR LAW (24H)
THE COURSE IS DESIGNED TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO THE MAIN ASPECTS OF THE ENGLISH LEGAL SYSTEM AND ENGLISH LAW.
TOPICS COVERED WILL INCLUDE: THE LAW-MAKING PROCESS, INCLUDING BOTH STATUTE AND THE OPERATION OF THE COMMON LAW SYSTEM OF JUDICIAL DECISIONS; THE STRUCTURE OF THE COURTS; THE ORGANISATION OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION; THE ELEMENTS OF BOTH CIVIL AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE; AND WILL REVIEW SOME OF THE MAIN BRANCHES OF ENGLISH LAW (CRIMINAL LAW, PUBLIC LAW, CONTRACT, TORT, PROPERTY AND TRUSTS, FAMILY LAW).
Teaching Methods
LANGUAGE SKILLS
SPEAKING:
DISCUSSIONS, ROLE-PLAY, SIMULATIONS, DIALOGUES, MINI-PRESENTATIONS AND PRONUNCIATION ACTIVITIES WILL BE PRACTICED TO IMPROVE FLUENCY.
LISTENING:
LISTENING PRACTICE OF PUBLISHED, AUTHENTIC AND AUDIO-VISUAL WILL HELP TO INCREASE UNDERSTANDING OF SPOKEN ENGLISH AND TO IMPROVE COMMUNICATION EFFECTIVENESS.
READING:
READING A VARIETY OF AUTHENTIC AND PUBLISHED TEXTS WILL HELP TO ENRICH VOCABULARY AS WELL AS TO READ FASTER AND WITH MORE UNDERSTANDING AND WILL ALSO HELP TO IMPLEMENT MORE EFFECTIVE READING STRATEGIES.
WRITING:
WRITING FOR COMMUNICATIVE PURPOSES SUCH AS LETTERS, REPORTS AND MINI-ESSAYS, PLUS PERSONAL WRITING WILL BE PRACTICED. SOME OF THIS WORK WILL BE UNDERTAKEN AS HOMEWORK.

GRAMMAR
PRACTICE OF THE FOUR LANGUAGE SKILLS WILL CONTAIN GRAMMATICAL STRUCTURE IN CONTEXT. STRUCTURES WILL BE INTRODUCED AND REVIEWED ACCORDING TO STUDENTS’ NEEDS.

VOCABULARY
VOCABULARY WILL BE INTRODUCED ACCORDING TO THE TOPIC STUDIED. ADVICE WILL BE ALSO GIVEN ON HOW TO EFFECTIVELY RECORD, LEARN AND ACTIVATE NEW VOCABULARY.
