Contents
THE TECHNIQUES TO BE ILLUSTRATED IN THE COURSE ARE LARGELY USED IN MANY SCIENTIFIC AND INDUSTRIAL FIELDS. ABOUT THE PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES, SPUTTERING, LASER ABLATION AND MOLECULAR BEAM EPITAXY WILL BE DISCUSSED ALONG WITH THE ELECTROSPINNING DEPOSITION TECHNIQUE, WHILE FOR THE ADVANCED CHARACTERIZATION TECHNIQUES, X-RAY DIFFRACTION ANALYSIS, I.R AND U.V-VISIBLE SPECTROSCOPY AND DC ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENTS AS A FUNCTION OF THE TEMPERATURE WILL BE ILLUSTRATED.
THE COURSE FORESEES BOTH THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL LECTURES WITH LABORATORY ACTIVITIES WHERE THE STUDENTS WILL EXPERIENCE DIRECTLY THE ACQUIRED NOTIONS. THE PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES IN THE LABORATORY WILL COVER AT LEAST THE 50% OF THE TOTAL HOURS.

PRINCIPLES OF MODERN PHYSICS (10 HOURS THEORY)
PVD DEPOSITION TECHNIQUES (5 HOURS THEORY AND 3 HOURS LAB)
PRODUCTION OF INORGANIC THIN FILMS BY PVD TECHNIQUES (3 HOURS LAB)
STRUCTURAL CHARACTERIZATION OF INORGANIC THIN FILMS BY X-RAY TECNIQUES (3 HOURS LAB)
MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF INORGANIC THIN FILMS (3 HOURS LAB)
ELECTRICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF INORGANIC THIN FILMS AS A FUNCTION OF TEMPERATURE (3 HOURS LAB)
I.R. SPECTROSCOPY PRINCIPLES (4 HOURS THEORY)
U.V.-VISIBLE SPECTROSCOPY PRINCIPLES (4 HOURS THEORY)
PHYSICAL PRINCIPLES OF ELECTROSPINNING (5 HOURS THEORY)
PRODUCTION OF BIO MATERIALS BY ELECTROSPINNING TECHNIQUE (9 HOURS LAB)
STRUCTURAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE BIOMATERIALS (2 HOURS THEORY AND 6 HOUR LAB)

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE FORESEES THEORETICAL LECTURES (30 HOURS) AND PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES IN LAB (30 HOURS) FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT OF 60 HOURS.
LECTURES ARE PROVIDED .
ATTENDANCE AT THE LECTURES IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
Verification of learning
THE EXAM IS DESIGNED TO ASSESS THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO LEARN THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THIN FILM DEPOSITION TECHNIQUES COVERED DURING THE COURSE, AND THE ABILITY TO DESIGN MANUFACTURES OF INORGANIC AND ORGANIC NATURE WITH STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS FOR TARGETED APPLICATIONS. STUDENTS WILL BE ASKED TO WRITE A PAPER ON A LABORATORY EXPERIENCE, AGREED WITH THE TEACHERS, AND THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED THROUGH A BOTTOM-UP PROCESS WILL BE VERIFIED.

THE FINAL MARK WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT:

THE QUALITY OF THE EXPOSURE, IN TERMS OF USING APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE
THE ABILITY TO CROSS-CORRELATION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND WITH OTHER ENGINEERING DISCIPLINES
THE AUTONOMY OF PROVEN JUDGMENT
TO ACHIEVE SUFFICIENCY THE STUDENT WILL HAVE TO DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF A SPECIFIC METHODOLOGY FOR THE PREPARATION OF AN ORGANIC OR INORGANIC SYSTEM AND TO CORRELATE THE PREPARATION METHOD WITH THE EXPECTED PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF THE MATERIAL.
TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE, THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO KNOW HOW TO APPROACH THE DESIGN, PROPOSING THE APPROPRIATE METHODOLOGY OF PREPARATION, OF AN ORGANIC OR INORGANIC NON-CONVENTIONAL MATERIAL, NOT TREATED DURING THE LABORATORY, FOLLOWING A BOTTOM-UP APPROACH STARTING FROM THE STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL PROPERTIES THAT WILL BE PROPOSED TO HIM/HER.
ATTENDANCE AT THE LECTURES IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
