Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO TREAT THE TOPICS OF GREATEST INTEREST IN THE CONTEXT OF METHODS AND MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS BASED ON THE ANALYSIS OF DIGITAL IMAGES IN THE SERVICE OF THE AUTOMATION OF INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES. WE WILL DESCRIBE THE SYSTEMS AND METHODS BASED ON VISION FOR ON-LINE MEASUREMENT AND NON-CONTACT (BASED ON IMAGE PROCESSING) OF DIMENSIONAL PARAMETERS, AND WILL BE INTRODUCED ISSUES RELATED TO THE EVALUATION OF THE UNCERTAINTY OF THE MEASUREMENT RESULTS PROVIDED.
Prerequisites
KNOWLEDGE OF THE METROLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND THE USE OF MEASURING INSTRUMENTS, AND RELATED TO THE EVALUATION OF MEASUREMENT UNCERTAINTY; KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ALGORITHMS AND DATA STRUCTURES.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES LECTURES AND LABORATORY EXERCISES. DURING THE LABORATORY EXERCISES PROVIDED IN THE FIRST PART OF THE COURSE, STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO SOLVE PROBLEMS THAT REQUIRE THE APPLICATION OF THE TECHNIQUES LEARNED IN CLASS. IN FUTURE TUTORIALS, STUDENTS, DIVIDED INTO WORKING GROUPS, IS ASSIGNED A PROJECT TO BE DEVELOPED DURING THE REMAINING PART OF THE COURSE. THE PROJECT INCLUDES ALL TEACHING CONTENT IN A UNIFIED MANNER AND ENABLES STUDENTS TO ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO DESIGN, REALIZATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF A MEASURING INSTRUMENT BASED ON IMAGE ANALYSIS STARTING FROM THE SPECIFICATIONS, AND TO DEVELOP AND STRENGTHEN THE CAPACITY TO WORK IN GROUPS .
Verification of learning
THE ASSESSMENT OF THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES WILL BE AN ORAL EXAM, WHICH INCLUDES ALSO THE DISCUSSION OF THE PROJECT DEVELOPED BY THE STUDENT DURING THE FINAL PART OF THE COURSE.
