Objectives
THE COURSE PROVIDES THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY (EMC), WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO CONDUCTED AND RADIATED DISTURBANCES, COUPLING PATHS AND GUIDELINES TO DESIGN SYSTEMS WHICH ARE ELECTROMAGNETICALLY COMPATIBLE WITH THEIR ENVIRONMENT.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT, IN HIS CULTURAL BAGGAGE, HAS:
-KNOWLEDGE OF ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE (EMI) SOURCES AND THEIR CHARACTERIZATION;
-KNOWLEDGE OF THE EMC REGULATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE PRODUCTS;
-THE ABILITY TO ANALYSE AND SOLVE THE EMC ISSUES OF THE PRODUCTS.

CONOSCENZA E CAPACITÀ DI COMPRENSIONE APPLICATE
AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT IS ABLE:
-TO IDENTIFY EFFICIENT SOLUTIONS, FROM THE EMC POINT OF VIEW, IN THE DESIGN OF ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS AT HIGH FREQUENCY;
-TO UNDERSTAND THE EMC REGULATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS ACCORDINGLY WITH THE CURRENT LEGISLATION.

PERSONAL JUDGMENTS
THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO WORK IN A LABORATORY, RECOGNIZING INSTRUMENTATION AND EQUIPPING THE INSTRUMENTAL SET-UP FOR EMC MEASUREMENTS.

-BEING ABLE TO WRITE, IN A CLEAR AND CONCISE WAY, A TEST REPORT;
-BEING ABLE TO WORK, BOTH ALONE OR IN A TEAM, DURING THE EXPERIMENTAL ACTIVITY;
-BEING ABLE TO USE THE RIGHT TERMINOLOGY AND THE ACQUIRED KNOW HOW FOR THE INTERACTION WITH TECHNICAL STRUCTURES OF COMPANIES OPERATING IN THE ELECTRONIC AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS SECTOR.

-BEING ABLE TO USE THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED BY SEVERAL SOURCES IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE A BROAD VISION OF THE ISSUES CONNECTED TO THE ANALYSIS OF ELECTRICAL DEVICES;
-BEING ABLE TO USE THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN AN INDUSTRIAL ENVIRONMENT.
Prerequisites
FOR THE SUCCESSFUL ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES, IS REQUIRED A SUITABLE KNOWLEDGE OF THE GENERAL THEOREMS OF THE ELECTROMAGNETISMS, WAVE PROPAGATION IN FREE SPACE AND WAVE PROPAGATION IN WAVEGUIDES.

LABORATORY: MEASUREMENT OF CONDUCTED AND RADIATED DISTURBANCES, MEASUREMENTS OF ELECTRIC, MAGNETIC AND ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS, ASSESSMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS (14 HOURS).

THE WIRELESS SERVICES IN AUDIO EQUIPMENT (HOURS: 10 THEORY);
MEASUREMENT REGULATIONS AND METHODOLOGIES: THE EMC STANDARDS FOR AUDIO EQUIPMENT (HOURS: 10 THEORY);
LABORATORY: VERIFICATION OF THE RADIO COVERAGE OF AN ENVIRONMENT (10 HOURS).
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES THEORETICAL LESSONS, CLASSROOM EXERCISES AND EXPERIMENTAL ACTIVITY IN THE LABORATORY (GROUP WORK) WITH EDITING A TECHNICAL REPORT (INDIVIDUAL WORK) IN THE FORMAT REQUIRED FOR THE CERTIFICATION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY OF THE EQUIPMENT.
Verification of learning
THE LEARNING DEGREE OF THE STUDENT ON THE MAIN METHODOLOGIES TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES AND THE RELATED SOLVING TECHNIQUES DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE IS ASSESSED BY AN ORAL EXAM LASTING 1 HOUR (AVERAGE). THE EVALUATION GRADE, RANGING FROM 18/30 TO 30/30 CUM LAUDE, WILL DEPEND ON THE KNOWLEDGE LEVEL ON THE COURSE SUBJECT ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT.
IN PARTICULAR, THE EXAM AIMS:
TO VERIFY THE LEARNING OF THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE THEORETICAL LESSONS;
TO VERIFY THE ABILITY TO EXPOSE THE COVERED TOPICS;
TO VERIFY THE PERSONAL JUDGMENT IN PROPOSING THE MOST APPROPRIATE APPROACH TO ANSWER.
DURING THE ORAL TEST, THE STUDENT WILL ALSO HAVE TO ILLUSTRATE THE THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS AND THE MEASUREMENT PROCEDURES CONTAINED IN THE TECHNICAL REPORT RELATED TO THE LABORATORY ACTIVITY CARRIED OUT DURING THE COURSE.
TO PASS THE EXAM (MINIMUM GRADE 18), IT IS NECESSARY TO DEMONSTRATE TO HAVE ACHIEVED A SUFFICIENT GRADE OF LEARNING OF THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE THEORETICAL LESSONS AND IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY CERTIFICATION PROTOCOLS OF THE DEVICES.
THE MAXIMUM GRADE (30/30) IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A DEEP KNOWLEDGE OF ALL THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE THEORETICAL LESSONS AND IS ABLE TO ANALYZE AND SOLVE THE ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY PROBLEMS.
MOREOVER, IN ORDER TO BE AWARDED CUM LAUDE, IT WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT:
THE QUALITY OF ORAL EXPOSITION, EVALUATING THE USE OF AN APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE;
THE ABILITY OF CROSS-CORRELATION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND, WHEN IT IS POSSIBLE, WITH THOSE OF OTHER SUBJECTS;
THE DEMONSTRATED PERSONAL JUDGMENT.
