Objectives
TO UNDERSTAND THE FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS OF 1, 2, N DOF MECHANICAL VIBRATIONS. TO MODEL MECHANICAL SYSTEMS AND DETERMINE NATURAL FREQUENCIES, DAMPING RATIOS, AND RESPONSE TO PERIODIC FORCING FUNCTIONS. TO UNDERSTAND THE FUNDAMENTALS OF SOUND PROPAGATION AND OF ACOUSTICAL DESIGN. TO DEVISE PROPER INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEMS TO CHARACTERIZE NOISE AND VIBRATIONS ACCORDING WITH THE ITALIAN LAWS.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of Mathematics and Physics.
Contents
Equation of Motion of 1 2 n DOF systems , free and forced vibrations of inear systems; design for vibration suppression. Vibrations transducers. Experimental vibration analysis. Properties of sound. Sound levels. Sound level meter, sound level measurements.
Spectrum analysis - octave band analyses. Outdoor noise measurements. Noise level from traffic flow. Software for the noise analysis. Criteria for noise control.
