Objectives
THE COURSE GIVES AN OVERVIEW ON ALL THE RECENT METHODOLOGIES AND TECHNOLOGIES, AIMED AT THE BIG DATA ANALYSIS, AND THE SEMANTIC DESCRIPTION OF THE WEB RESOURCES CONTENT AND THE DISCOVERY OF IMPLICIT DATA/RELATIONSHIP BY MEANS OF METHODS, LANGUAGES E FORMAL APPROACHES FOR THE ONTOLOGY-BASED KNOWLEDGE REPRESENTATION.



KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO ANALYZE AND CONCEPTUALLY MODEL A DOMAIN OF INTEREST, GIVEN A MASSIVE AND HETEROGENEOUS DATASET. THANKS TO THE USE OF ONTOLOGICAL SCHEMES, THEY WILL ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO MODEL CONCRETE INSTANCES FOR THE ONTOLOGY POPULATION. THEY WILL ACQUIRE METHODS AND TECHNIQUES TO EXTRACT UNSTRUCTURED AND STRUCTURED DATA FROM KNOWLEDGE BASE.

ABILITY TO MODEL ONTOLOGICAL SCHEME AND RELATIVE POPULATION.
ABILITY TO MODEL AND INTEGRATE THE SEMANTIC –BASED MODELING IN BOG DATA APPLICATIONS. A GOAL OF THE COURSE IS THE MODELING OF A WEB APPLICATION, THAT EXHIBITS THE COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS ACQUIRED DURING THE COURSE, BY MOTIVATING THE METHODOLOGICAL CHOICES AND IMPLEMENTATION.




MAKING JUDGMENT:
STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO EVALUATE AND CHOOSE APPROPRIATE APPROACHES IN THE ONTOLOGICAL MODELING OF THE ANALYZED DATA, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE "REQUIREMENT" OF THE SPECIFIC DOMAIN OF INTEREST, THE GRANULARITY LEVEL OF THE SPECIFICATIONS, THE TYPE OF ACTIVITIES TO BE IMPLEMENTED (BROWSING KNOWLEDGE, INFERENCE, INFORMATION SEARCH, ETC..).




COMMUNICATION SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL GAIN THE MASTERY OF BIG DATA AND SEMANTIC WEB TECHNOLOGY.
DURING THE COURSE, THE STUDENTS WILL STUDY A TOPIC ASSIGNED TO THEM AND THEN THEY WILL INTRODUCE IT WITH MASTERY AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS.

LEARNING SKILLS:
THE COURSE AIMS AT STIMULATING ANALYTICAL AND RESEARCH ABILILIES OF THE STUDENTS. AFTER THE COURSE, STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO EMPLOY THE METHODOLOGICAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL TOOLS FOR THE DESIGN OF APPLICATIONS THAT REQUIRE A SEMANTIC APPROACH.

THE TOPICS OF THIS COURSE ARE THE MAIN PRINCIPLES OF THE SEMANTIC WEB, SUCH AS THE BUILDING OF AN ONTOLOGY, BY EXPLOITING THE W3C RECOMMENDATIONS. THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE SEMANTIC WEB TECHNOLOGIES, SUCH AS THE MARK-UP LANGUAGES: THE FORMAL SEMANTICS OF RDF AND RDF SCHEMA, OWL AND THE QUERY LANGUAGE, SPARQL. XML AND TURTLE ARE USED TO SERIALIZE/DESCRIBE THE KNOWLEDGE REPRESENTED BY THOSE TECHNOLOGIES.

A GLOBAL VISION OF THE WEB IS DESCRIBED THROUGH THE EMERGING "WEB OF DATA" AND THE DISTRIBUTED "LINKED DATA", AS WELL AS THE TECHNOLOGIES OF WEB 2.0 AND FURTHER VERSIONS.

PROJECT AND ORAL EXAM. THE GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP AN APPLICATION BASED ON THE SEMANTIC WEB TECHNOLOGIES, THAT DEEPEN A TOPIC STUDIED DURING THE COURSE, LOCATED IN A SPECIFIC APPLICATION DOMAIN. IN THE ORAL EXAM
THE STUDENT HAS TO SHOW KNOWLEDGE OF ALL THE TOPICS STUDIED
IN THE COURSE.
